Hiker with red backpack sitting on limestone rocks overlooking the Mediterranean Sea and green hills of Mallorca's Tramuntana mountains.

The essentials at a glance

Self-guided walking holiday through Mallorca's Serra de Tramuntana Mountains. The moderate route covers approximately 67 km over 5 walking days, featuring coastal trails along the Alcúdia Peninsula, the historic pilgrimage route to Lluc Monastery, panoramic views from Cúber Reservoir, and the scenic Biniaraix Gorge. Accommodation includes 3- and 4-star hotels plus 2 nights at Lluc Monastery. Daily walking time averages 4-6 hours with breakfast included.

Mallorca is known as La Luminosa – the illuminated island – and it certainly lives up to its name. The largest of the Balearic Islands has plenty of hidden treasures waiting to be discovered. Explore the peaceful heart of Mallorca in the rugged Serra de Tramuntana Mountains, where walking trails wind across rocky hillsides, through ancient oak forests and past olive groves. Along the way, charming villages, traditional estates and impressive mountain scenery create a wonderful setting for your walking holiday.

The island's coastline is equally captivating, with spectacular views across the Mediterranean and its rocky islets. Follow historic pilgrimage routes and scenic mountain paths, discover picturesque coastal villages and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere that makes Mallorca so special. This walking holiday in Spain takes you along some of the most beautiful sections of the famous GR221 trail.

Itinerary

See the day-by-day itinerary below.

Depending on your arrival time, you can enjoy a leisurely stroll through Port de Alcúdia or take a refreshing swim at the beach.

One of Mallorca's most beautiful walking trails stretches between the Bay of Pollença and Alcúdia, the oldest town on the island. Following the coastline, the trail leads you up to an impressive clifftop with spectacular views across the Mediterranean. From here, winding paths take you over gentle hills, offering magnificent panoramic views as you make your way back to the historic town of Port de Alcúdia.

After a short transfer to Pollença, today's walk begins along the historic pilgrimage route to Lluc Monastery. With magnificent views of the peaks of the Serra de Tramuntana, the trail climbs towards the mountain pass near Puig Tomir, which rises to 1,447 metres.

The route to the monastery takes you through wonderfully varied scenery, including shaded cliffs, oak forests, orchards and open meadows. Behind the monastery, a small botanical garden offers a fascinating introduction to the vegetation found in Mallorca's mountain landscapes.

In the morning, you will be transferred to Cúber Reservoir, a large mountain reservoir established in 1971 and now home to a rich variety of birds and fish. From here, you follow another section of the historic pilgrimage route back towards Lluc Monastery.

The trail leads into the Serra de Tramuntana Mountains, through a fascinating landscape of tall grasses, rocky formations and rugged mountain terrain. Along the way, you will encounter some of Mallorca's most beautiful viewpoints, overlooking dramatic coastal cliffs and lush valleys. The route eventually takes you back to Lluc Monastery for another overnight stay.

Today's walk follows the shores of Cúber Reservoir, passing the impressive Puig de l'Ofre, which rises to 1,090 metres. Prepare for spectacular views across the Serra de Tramuntana Mountains. From here, you climb towards Es Cornador along a winding mountain trail, with wonderful views of both the coastline and Palma.

On the way to Sóller, you follow the famous panoramic trail through the Biniaraix Gorge, one of the most beautiful landscapes in the Tramuntana Mountains. The route continues past fragrant orange groves before reaching the lively centre of Sóller. From here, you take the historic tram for the final stretch to Port de Sóller.

Hotel (example): Hotel Marina

Today's walk takes you through the beautiful countryside surrounding Sóller, where citrus orchards, ancient olive groves and almond trees create a wonderfully Mediterranean landscape. Starting in Port de Sóller, you follow peaceful paths towards Fornalutx, a charming mountain village often described as one of the prettiest on Mallorca. Nestled among the impressive peaks of the Tramuntana Mountains, its narrow cobbled streets and traditional stone houses make it a lovely place to explore.

From Fornalutx, the route continues towards the town of Sóller, where you can enjoy the lively atmosphere of the main square, surrounded by cafés and the impressive church of Sant Bartomeu. After spending some time exploring the town, you return to Port de Sóller aboard the historic tram, a charming way to end a beautiful day of walking.

You will stay at 4-star hotels, at the Lluc monastery, and at a 3-star hotel in Sóller - with breakfast included throughout the trip.

This journey has difficulty level 2

Grade 2
Easy hiking on reasonably good trails. The day walks will last 4-6 hours in hilly terrain. Anyone in good physical condition can participate. Your luggage will be transported and you only carry a light daypack. Requires comfortable footwear such as trekking shoes or hiking boots.

Read more about our grading system here.

An information meeting will be held by one of our local partners at 9 AM on day 2. You will meet in the reception area unless informed otherwise at check-in. After the meeting, you will be assisted to the first starting point for the hike, so be ready to start hiking when you arrive at the meeting at 9 AM.

On this journey there is a discount for children and people sharing a room with "two fully paying adults". The amount of discount depends on age; thus:

Children under 5.99 years: free
Children between 6 and 11.99 years: 50% discount
Children between 12 - 14.99 years: 25% discount
People from 15 years and up: 10% discount

Example 1
You are 2 adults and 1 child. Here it's very simple because you're staying in the same room. The child gets a discount compared to the prices above.

Example 2
You are 2 adults and 2 children (aged 5 and 13). Here you have two options. If you want to stay in two double rooms, it will be full price for all participants. If you want to stay in the same room (e.g. a family room), then both children will get a discount (free and 25% discount respectively).

Example 3
You are 2 adults and 3 children (age: 7, 13 and 15). In this case, you will probably need two double rooms where the youngest child sleeps with the parents. Therefore, there will only be a discount for the youngest child aged 7, who will receive a 50% discount.

Example 4
You are 3 adults who want to sleep in the same double room. The extra adult will receive a 10% discount.

Please note
It is important that you understand that it is your own responsibility when you choose to bring children on the tours. You should check the descriptions of the difficulty levels and decide whether the specific tour is suitable for your child.

A hiking holiday in Mallorca during the spring months of March, April, and May offers temperatures between 18-25 degrees Celsius, moderate rainfall, and mild wind conditions.

In the summer month of June, temperatures rise to between 25-30 degrees Celsius. We recommend starting your daily hike early, especially on particularly hot days, to avoid the midday heat. This month typically sees low rainfall and mild winds.

During the autumn months of September and October, expect pleasant temperatures ranging from 20-28 degrees Celsius. Rainfall increases compared to other periods, but wind conditions remain light.

In the winter month of February, temperatures drop to 10-15 degrees Celsius. Expect moderate rainfall and cooler wind conditions.

When you book a trip with us, we plant a tree in Kenya.

Bering Travel partners with Growing Trees Network, which has been planting trees in Kenya since 2020 in collaboration with Seniorer uden Grænser (Seniors Without Borders). The trees are planted with small-scale local farmers in the Mount Kenya region, as well as at schools, where the fruit helps supplement students’ diets and is incorporated into their learning.

The trees are planted using the shamba method – a sustainable approach that combines reforestation with agricultural crops. This keeps the soil covered with vegetation throughout the year, helping to prevent nutrient loss and reduce erosion.

The contribution to tree planting comes directly from Bering Travel’s own earnings and is not added to the price of your trip.

This initiative is not intended as a carbon offset for travel, but as a way to make a positive contribution.
