Our walking holidays in Malta
Walking in Malta – coastal trails and historic sights
Walking in Malta brings you close to the island’s limestone cliffs, cultivated fields and small bays. Along the coast, views open up across the Mediterranean, while quiet roads and trails lead you through a landscape where nature and cultural history are closely intertwined.
At Ħaġar Qim, you can explore Malta’s prehistoric temples before continuing your walk towards the Dingli Cliffs. In Rabat and the nearby fortified city of Mdina, narrow streets and golden limestone buildings await. This combination offers both active days in nature and opportunities to explore historic sights between walks.
Good to know about Malta
Malta is an independent island nation in the Mediterranean, south of Sicily. Its islands include Malta, Gozo and Comino, and the capital, Valletta, is on the main island of Malta. Distances are relatively short, but the landscape varies between lively towns, rural areas and rocky coastlines.
The official languages are Maltese and English, so you can usually communicate easily in English during your trip. The currency is the euro.
On a walking holiday, bear in mind that short distances do not necessarily mean easy routes. Coastal trails can be rocky and hilly, with some steep sections. Bring sturdy walking shoes, sun protection and plenty of drinking water, as well as a windproof and waterproof jacket for changeable weather.
When travelling between the islands, plan around current ferry schedules and allow plenty of time – especially on your departure day. Wind and sea conditions can affect ferry services.
Use our app on your trip
On our self-guided walking and cycling holidays, you have access to the Bering Travel App. You can use it for GPS navigation during your trip, making it easy to follow the routes.
