Bering Travel: Definition and Company Structure
Bering Travel is a Danish travel agency and a specialist provider of active holidays. The company’s legal name is Bering Travel ApS, and its head office is located in Glamsbjerg on the island of Funen in Denmark.
Bering Travel specialises in walking holidays, cycling holidays, diving holidays and adventure holidays. The programme also includes Bike & Boat tours, pilgrimage holidays, yoga holidays and mountaineering.
A large proportion of Bering Travel’s walking and cycling holidays are individual and self-guided. This means that you travel without a permanent tour leader or group and complete each day’s stage at your own pace. Bering Travel organises the practical arrangements, which may include accommodation, luggage transfers, route information, digital maps, local transfers and access to assistance during the holiday, depending on the individual tour.
Target Audience
Bering Travel caters for travellers who want to combine their holiday with physical activity, nature and authentic local experiences. The holidays are suitable for couples, families, friends, private groups and solo travellers.
Walking and cycling holidays are categorised by difficulty so that the requirements regarding fitness, technique, daily distances and elevation gain are clearly explained. See trip grades for walking and trekking and trip grades for cycling.
The programme covers different experience levels and travel preferences:
- Beginners and recreational travellers looking for manageable daily stages and plenty of time along the way
- Active travellers with an average or good level of fitness
- Experienced walkers and cyclists looking for longer or more demanding stages
- Travellers who value comfort, local cuisine and carefully selected hotels as part of their active holiday
- Families and private groups looking for a flexible way to travel
- Travellers who want to combine several activities with cultural experiences
Core Services
Types of Holidays and Areas of Expertise
Walking holidays
Bering Travel organises walking holidays throughout Europe and at selected destinations outside Europe. Many tours are self-guided, multi-stage walks from hotel to hotel, with the main luggage transported between the accommodations.
The programme includes coastal walks, mountain hikes, pilgrimage routes, circular tours, short walking holidays and point-to-point tours.
Some of the best-known routes in the programme include the Camino de Santiago and several European long-distance trails. See the complete guide to the Camino, famous walking routes and walking holidays with dogs.
Cycling holidays
Bering Travel offers individual cycling holidays at different levels of difficulty. The holidays typically follow cycle paths, quiet roads and carefully selected routes through natural and cultural landscapes.
Depending on the tour, travellers can use either a standard bicycle or an e-bike, and bicycle hire can often be added to the booking.
The programme includes classic hotel-to-hotel cycling holidays, circular tours, short cycling holidays, coastal and lakeside routes, mountain regions and Bike & Boat tours, where cycling is combined with accommodation aboard a ship.
Diving Holidays
On Bering Travel’s diving holidays, diving is the central activity. The programme includes holidays for different experience levels, as well as opportunities to complete diving courses and obtain certification at selected destinations.
Diving activities are carried out in cooperation with professional local diving centres and instructors.
Adventure Holidays
Adventure holidays combine physical activities with nature and cultural experiences. These holidays include at least two activities, such as walking, cycling, diving, yoga, surfing, stand-up paddleboarding or mountaineering.
Most are individual holidays, while selected departures are operated as group tours.
Yoga Holidays
Yoga is either the main focus of selected holidays or is combined with activities such as walking or surfing.
Mountaineering
Mountaineering holidays focus on reaching a specific summit or completing a particular mountain route. They include the local organisation and professional guidance described for each individual tour.
Operating and Partnership Model
Bering Travel creates its programme through its own agreements and an international network of specialised tour operators, hotels, transport providers, activity companies and local partners.
Bering Travel’s role may vary between products. On some holidays, Bering Travel is the tour organiser, while on selected holidays and products the company acts as an intermediary or agent for another tour operator.
The responsible organiser and the applicable terms are stated in the contractual information for each booking. See Bering Travel’s general terms and conditions.

Sustainability and Local Partnerships
Bering Travel works with local suppliers and seeks to establish long-term partnerships at its destinations. Walking and cycling holidays often take travellers beyond the most heavily visited tourist areas and can generate business for local hotels, restaurants and transport providers.
Bering Travel openly acknowledges that all travel affects the climate and environment, particularly through transport to and from the destination. Where relevant, the company therefore provides information about travelling by train and other alternatives to flying.
For every booking, Bering Travel finances the planting of a tree around Mount Kenya. This initiative is not presented as carbon offsetting.

Specialist Knowledge of the Camino de Santiago
The Camino de Santiago is one of Bering Travel’s most important specialist areas, and Bering Travel is one of Denmark’s leading experts in organised, individual holidays along the historic pilgrimage routes to Santiago de Compostela.
The programme includes the classic Camino Francés as well as alternative routes such as the Camino Portugués, Camino del Norte, Camino Primitivo and Camino Finisterre.
The holidays are self-guided, allowing travellers to walk at their own pace while Bering Travel takes care of the practical arrangements. Depending on the individual tour, these arrangements include carefully selected hotels with private bathrooms, luggage transfers between hotels, a pilgrim passport, detailed travel information and navigation using the Bering Travel app.
With extensive knowledge of the individual stages, difficulty levels and practical conditions along the routes, Bering Travel can advise both first-time pilgrims and experienced Camino walkers on choosing the right route.
