Itinerary
Your holiday begins at your accommodation in Aulus-les-Bains, where you can choose either to explore the charming thermal village or head out on a scenic loop walk. Two options are available: a beautiful circuit taking you to Guzet Lake and the impressive Cascade d’Ars, or a shorter loop that focuses solely on the spectacular waterfall that has long contributed to the village’s reputation as a spa destination. Whether you choose the longer or shorter route, both walks offer wonderful mountain scenery and a great introduction to the area.
Hotel (example): Gite les Oussailles
From Aulus-les-Bains, the trail climbs steadily towards the Port de Saleix (1794 m). Along the way you’ll encounter classic Pyrenean scenery: rustic barns, lively streams, lush mountain flora and remnants of an old mine. From the pass, enjoy views into the Auzat and Vicdessos valleys and over the Bassiès lakes before you reach the refuge. A variant route offers a panoramic ridge walk with superb views over the Lavants ponds.
Note: Tonight you will stay in a mountain hut, to which luggage cannot be taken. Therefore, you will have to pack the sheet/sleeping bag, toiletries, change of clothes etc. and carry it with you on the hike today. You will only be contacted about your luggage after the hike tomorrow.

The GR10 follows the magnificent Bassiès lakes before descending into the lower Vicdessos valley towards Auzat, at the foot of Montcalm — the last 3000m summit before the Mediterranean. A beautiful path then leads to Goulier, passing through the charming mountain hamlet of Olbier.
Hotel (example): Le relais d'Endron
Leaving Goulier, the route crosses several passes and wanders through peaceful forests and mountain hamlets such as Lercoul and Siguer. The area is rich in traditional heritage: Romanesque chapels, stone barns, shepherds’ huts and ancient terraced fields. As the stage is fairly easy and short, you may take a ridge variant including Pic du Sarrasi (2213 m) for impressive views over Vicdessos.
Hotel (example): Gite de Siguer
A forest climb leads to the panoramic ridge of Bède and the summit of Pla de Montcamp, offering a magnificent 360° view over the Ariège mountains. Afterwards, the route crosses the wide-open spaces of the Pla du Four before leaving the GR10 to descend into the Aston valley and reach Les Cabannes. This is a long stage; a transfer can shorten it if desired.
Hotel (example): Complexe des Oustalous
A morning transfer brings you to the Plateau de Beille to rejoin the GR10. Known for its Nordic ski area and Tour de France appearances, the plateau marks the start of the ascent to the Rulhe refuge via a series of cols: Finestres, Didorte, Belh and Terre Nègre. A true high-mountain atmosphere awaits.
Note: Tonight you will stay in a mountain hut, to which luggage cannot be brought. Therefore, you will have to pack sheet/sleeping bag, toiletries, change of clothes etc. and carry it with you on the hike today. You will only be contacted about your luggage after the hike tomorrow.
Hotel (example): Refuge
From Rulhe refuge, the GR10 crosses the Calmette pass, skirts the Etang Bleu and follows the Lhasse ridge with stunning views of the Rulhe massif. A long descent then leads past the Comte pond and down along the Mourguillou stream before reaching Mérens-les-Vals.
The tour is now over and you will leave the last hotel of the tour during the morning.
