The route
On this cycling tour in Gironde, just southeast of Bordeaux, you'll be inundated with new impressions. Changing terrain and a diversity of experiences and places are the key words for this tour.

Itinerary
After the included transfer from Bordeaux (airport or train station), you'll be welcomed at the hotel in Cadillac. Bikes and equipment will be provided.
Dinner on your own. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Hotel (example): Hotel du Chateau de la Tour
In an open, rolling landscape with vineyards on all sides, you'll embark on today's stage in the L'Entre-Deux-Mers area. Here you'll get acquainted for the first time with the vineyards where the excellent Premières Côtes de Bordeaux wines come from. Take a look at the castle of Cadillac, enjoy the views of the Garonne River and stop for a wine tasting at a winery or two (look out for the signs along the way).
You'll arrive in the medieval town of Saint-Macaire, once an important trading centre, where you'll settle into your cosy hotel and take a look at the town, the remains of the Roman wall and the narrow streets behind the church. Overnight at the 3-star hotel in Saint-Macaire or Langon.
Hotel (example): L'Abricotier
After cycling across the Garonne River, you'll soon reach the vineyards where the sweet, world-famous Sauternes wines are produced. This is a must-taste!
The route passes through villages such as Budos and Villandraut, where you may want to have lunch before entering the Landes de Gascogne Natural Park in the afternoon.
A warm welcome awaits you at the chambres d'hôtes de charme (guesthouse) in Saint-Symphorien (or similar nearby). A delicious dinner (included) is served in the residence - very cosy!
Hotel (example): Domaine de la Hure
Start the day with a packed lunch and swimwear in your panniers. This short stage is entirely dedicated to the Landes de Gascogne Nature Park with its airy coniferous forest and carpets of luminous reeds. On flat and easy terrain, you'll quickly leave the straight sections and reach Hostens Lake, where a picnic and a swim may be in order.
In Le Barp, the final destination of the day, the restaurant in the small ‘auberge’ (with swimming pool) is renowned for its excellent cuisine.
Hotel (example): Hotel le Resinier
After a few kilometres, the forest thins out, you leave the nature park and the landscape gradually opens up towards the sea. Perhaps lunch at the cosy riverside restaurant in Mios, or a picnic along the riverbank? Greeted by the light of the deep Bay of Arcachon, cycle into the ornithological reserve at the end of the Bassin d'Arcachon and towards this well-maintained, beautiful and uncrowded town.
The hotel is just a stone's throw from the sea. There is a good choice of restaurants, dinner at your own expense.
Note: Approximately 45 km (or 54 km if you choose the southern option to see Europe's largest sand dune, Dune du Pyla).
Hotel (example): Hotel Le Nautic
Take the boat (ticket included) across the Bay of Arcachon to Cap Ferret and go for a nice bike ride on the other side of the bay. Enjoy the view from the lighthouse and visit the small oyster village of Herbe. Overnight stay at the same hotel. Dinner at your own expense. Drive as many kilometres as you like (20 to 50 km) or spend the day at the beach.
Hotel (example): Hotel Le Nautic
If you chose the southern route to the Atlantic Ocean to see Dune du Pyla on day 5, you can use this day to cycle east along the Bay of Arcachon and visit the 7 oyster harbours of Gujan Mestras and on to the bird sanctuary. Return to Arcachon and stay overnight at the same hotel. Dinner at your own expense.
Hotel (example): Hotel Le Nautic
Breakfast and return journey home.
