Itinerary
Upon arrival at Marrakech airport, you will be met by your driver and taken directly towards the Atlas Mountains – more precisely to the Imlil Valley at 1,740 meters altitude. The drive takes about an hour and a half and already offers beautiful views along the way. Upon arrival, you will be accommodated in a charming guesthouse in Imlil, surrounded by towering mountains.

After breakfast, you begin your first hike. The route takes you up through green valleys and along winding trails to the beautiful Tizi n’Tamatert pass (2,284 m), where the view stretches over both the Imlil and Imnane valleys. After lunch, the trail descends gently to the small village of Tamguist (1,900 m), where you will spend the night in a local lodge.

Today’s hike first descends towards the village of Ikis (1,800 m), where you cross the river and begin the ascent towards the Aguersioual Pass (2,100 m). From here, you are rewarded with another beautiful view before the trail descends towards Aguersioual and back to Imlil (1,740 m), where you will spend the night again.

After a calm morning and a final look at the jagged silhouette of the Atlas Mountains, you leave the highlands and head south. The journey takes you through some of Morocco’s most iconic and dramatic landscapes.
You will cross the spectacular Tizi n’Tichka Pass at 2,260 meters – one of the highest paved mountain passes in North Africa. The road winds its way through the mountains with breathtaking viewpoints along the way.
Around midday, you arrive at Aït Benhaddou, a UNESCO-listed kasbah, where mud-brick towers and narrow alleys rise up like a scene from a bygone era. You will have plenty of time to explore this historic desert town, which has served as a backdrop in films such as Gladiator and Game of Thrones.
After the visit, you continue towards Ouarzazate, known as the “gateway to the desert,” and from there further into the rugged yet beautiful Dades Valley. The valley is renowned for its spectacular rock formations, ancient kasbahs, and lush oases. You will arrive late in the day and check into a guesthouse.
The evening offers dinner and relaxation in peaceful surroundings – the perfect place to recharge before the next day’s journey towards the desert dunes.

After breakfast, the journey continues southeast through some of Morocco’s most contrasting landscapes. The route takes you through the town of Tinghir, known for its impressive palm grove and its access to the dramatic Todra Gorge – a deep red canyon with vertical walls rising up to 300 meters.
From there, you continue through small villages and vast plateaus, where the flat landscape gradually transforms into more desert-like surroundings. As you approach Merzouga, the gateway to the Sahara, you are greeted by your first sight of the golden sand dunes – a truly special moment on the journey.
In the afternoon, an exciting ATV (quad bike) adventure awaits, as you head out into the dunes and experience the desert up close. The tour ends at your desert camp, where you will spend the night and enjoy the quiet atmosphere of the desert night.
Hotel (example): Desert camp (tent)
After an early breakfast in the camp, you will be picked up in a 4x4 and driven back to the town of Merzouga. Here, you switch to a minibus and begin the long journey back to Marrakech.
The day offers a fascinating cross-section of Morocco’s geography. You will cross vast desert areas and rocky highlands, pass small villages and trading towns, and follow the main road north through the Anti-Atlas Mountains and further across the central ridges.
Along the way, there will be stops for lunch and breaks, and perhaps a chance to admire the sweeping plateaus. By evening, you arrive in Marrakech, where you will be accommodated for your final overnight stay.
Hotel (example): Riad Omar
No visit to Morocco is complete without a stay in magnificent Marrakech. Here you will find ancient palaces with steam baths, Quranic schools adorned with intricate mosaics, mausoleums of great sultans, and the thick city walls surrounding the old medina.
Explore the souk and haggle for embroidered slippers, woven carpets, large Moroccan cushions, fragrant spices, and natural remedies for all sorts of ailments. By late afternoon, the famous Djemaa el Fna square comes alive with acrobats, snake charmers, henna painters, and storytellers. The many stalls offer delicious dishes and freshly pressed orange juice.

Read more about our grading system here.
It is possible to bring children on this trip, and if you do, we will provide extra mules so they have something to ride on if they get tired. Depending on the number of mules we have, it may be necessary for the children to take turns riding.
Because the children must be able to sit on a mule by themselves, we do not recommend bringing children under 6 years old.
Age:
0-5 years: Not recommended
6-11 years: x Euro
12+ years: Full price
Note: On our booking form, you can only select "adults," and the system cannot automatically calculate the child discount. Therefore, just write the details of the children's ages, birth dates, and any desired room arrangements in the message field when booking the trip. We will adjust the price accordingly afterward.
It is important to be aware that it is your own responsibility when you choose to bring children on the trips. You should check the descriptions of the difficulty levels and assess whether the specific trip is suitable for your child.
