Difficulty level 2-3 with hikes between 4-6 hours per day. The surface is rocky in some places and the paths can be slippery in rainy weather. It is important to be sure-footed. The climbs in the Black Forest are very steep and require a generally good level of fitness.

Itinerary
You arrive to the first hotel of your journey. After you have settled in your room you can explore your surroundings.
Hotel (example): Hotel Hochfirst
The first walking stage begins with a gentle descent through peaceful woodland to the well-known Lake Titisee. Follow the lakeshore before continuing through a protected nature area towards Bärental. Along the way, you can visit the Schnapsmuseum, sample a local schnapps and treat yourself to a slice of traditional Black Forest gâteau.
The route then climbs steeply to Mathisleweiher, an idyllic little pond hidden among the trees. From here, pleasant forest paths lead onwards to the tranquil village of Hinterzarten.
Hotel (example): Haus am Bach
Scenic paths take you uphill to a wonderful viewpoint before the route continues towards Lake Feldsee. Along the way, you pass several traditional farms serving regional specialities – perfect for a well-earned break and a taste of the local cuisine.
From the deep-blue waters of Feldsee, a narrow path leads towards the Feldberg ski area. You can either extend the walk to the Bismarck Monument or follow an easier route directly to your accommodation. The night is spent in a mountain inn located either near the top of the pass or close to the summit.

Today’s walk takes you to the summit of Feldberg. The climb is steep, but the sweeping views from the top make every step worthwhile. Afterwards, you join the famous long-distance Westweg trail and follow the mountain ridge through open upland scenery and peaceful forests.
The route gradually descends towards Todtnauberg, with several mountain inns and inviting rest areas offering plenty of opportunities for a break along the way.

Today’s route leads past a series of waterfalls, including the spectacular Todtnauer Wasserfall, where the water plunges almost 100 metres down the rocky mountainside.
From Todtnau, a chairlift carries you up to Hasenhorn. A short detour takes you to the viewpoint at the summit before you continue through mountain pastures dotted with grazing cattle. Bubbling streams accompany the descent into the valley and onwards to the beautiful high valley of Bernau.
Hotel (example): Pension Jägerhof
The day begins with a climb to the Scheibenfelsen viewpoint, followed by a panoramic trail overlooking the surrounding Black Forest landscape. The route then descends towards the village of Menzenschwand, passing a small chapel along the way.
From here, you walk uphill through quiet woodland before reaching Lake Schluchsee. Cross the impressive dam and continue along the water to the lakeside village of Schluchsee.

The final walking stage begins with an ascent to another observation tower. From the top, you can look back across much of the landscape explored during the previous days.
Peaceful forest paths lead downhill towards Lenzkirch, where you can enjoy one last break before the final climb. The route crosses colourful mountain meadows and eventually brings you back to your accommodation in the small village of Saig.

It is possible to park at the first hotel or nearby. Parking cannot be reserved in advance and must be arranged directly with the hotel (expect a cost of approximately €10–20 per day).

The price is based upon two people sharing. It is also possible travel alone in a single room. Simply choose "1 person" in the booking form and it will automatically add the single room surcharge.
On this tour you will be on your own supplied with maps, route descriptions and luggage transfers. That means that your time is your own and you have plenty of time to enjoy the stages in your own pace.

The booking process
When you book the trip, we will begin booking hotels and arranging all the practical aspects of your tour. This process typically takes 5–8 working days, but in some cases it may take longer for certain bookings. If you arrange your own transportation, we recommend waiting until we have confirmed your booking before making any arrangements.
Dates
If you can select a date in the trip calendar (in the booking form), then this is a possible start date. We regularly update our trips with sold-out dates; these dates will then appear in red/grey and cannot be selected.
The flights to/from Stuttgart (closest airport) or Zürich airport are not included in the price. You can easily find a suitable flight via a flight booking engine such as Momondo or Skyscanner.

From the airport to the hotel:

From Zurich airport, we can arrange an airport transfer for you - both on arrival and departure. This is optional on the booking form where you will also see the price.
On this tour you will be accommodated in 3-star hotels, inns, and a basic inn on a mountain, with breakfast included.
In the itinerary you can see some examples of the hotels we use on this tour. Notice that the hotels are examples and you may end up staying in different hotels. It depends on availability when you book the tour.
Breakfast is included every day. It is easy to find lunch in the small villages before the walks and you will have plenty of choices for dinner in the many restaurants.
Luggage transfer is included on this tour. Upon arrival at the first hotel you will be given luggage tags along with the rest of the welcome package. You fill out the luggage tags and put them on your bags where they will remain for the duration of the tour.
Your luggage is picked up from the hotel lobby around 9am every morning and will arrive at your next hotel at 6pm at the latest (often long before that). If there are any special exceptions to the luggage transfer you will be notified upon arrival.
Luggage transfer includes one bag per guest and the bags can weigh 20kg each.

Easy hiking on reasonably good trails. The day walks will last 4-6 hours in hilly terrain. Anyone in good physical condition can participate. Your luggage will be transported and you only carry a light daypack. Requires comfortable footwear such as trekking shoes or hiking boots.

Upon booking
Immediately after booking this trip, you'll recieve a pre-booking-email where you can get a complete overview of your booking. Once the tour is confirmed you get a confirmation email from us along with practical information about the tour.
One month before departure
You will receive a hotel list and final travel documents.
Upon arrival at the first hotel
You'll receive the welcome pack, which contains everything you need for the trip. There will be route descriptions, maps, luggage tags and specific local vouchers. The documents are in English.
Notice: On some tours it is necessary to either print the documents yourself or to bring them electronically.
We recommend taking out travel insurance that covers at least illness, accident, repatriation, lost holiday, luggage and liability. As a customer, you are responsible for taking out the necessary travel insurance to cover these costs.
Before taking out insurance, you should check whether you are already covered by travel or cancellation insurance through your home insurance company, credit card or similar - please note that there may be differences in insurance coverage.

When you book a trip with us, we plant a tree in Kenya.
Bering Travel partners with Growing Trees Network, which has been planting trees in Kenya since 2020 in collaboration with Seniorer uden Grænser (Seniors Without Borders). The trees are planted with small-scale local farmers in the Mount Kenya region, as well as at schools, where the fruit helps supplement students’ diets and is incorporated into their learning.
The trees are planted using the shamba method – a sustainable approach that combines reforestation with agricultural crops. This keeps the soil covered with vegetation throughout the year, helping to prevent nutrient loss and reduce erosion.
The contribution to tree planting comes directly from Bering Travel’s own earnings and is not added to the price of your trip.
This initiative is not intended as a carbon offset for travel, but as a way to make a positive contribution.
