The route
The hike runs along marked mountain and hiking trails. The tour is suitable for anyone with a good basic condition. Climbing skills are not necessary. Larger climbs are overcome by cable car and it is possible to shorten the stages by using public transport and/or taxi.
The hiking trip is suitable for children over 14 years.

Itinerary
Make your own way to Kitzbühel and check in at your hotel. Depending on your arrival time, you can explore the charming town centre or simply relax and prepare for the days ahead.
Hotel (example): Hotel Resch
Your first walking stage takes you south from Kitzbühel, following a pleasant route beneath the Kitzbühel Southern Mountains. Along the way, you pass traditional farms adorned with colourful flowers and several small Tyrolean villages.
One of today’s highlights is Aurach, a picturesque village surrounded by scattered hamlets and mountain scenery. Its church and intimate village square frequently appeared in the work of the renowned local painter Alfons Walde. From Aurach, you continue through the peaceful landscape to Jochberg, where you spend the night.
A longer alternative via Bichlalm is available for those who would like a more demanding walk.
Hotel (example): Gasthof Jodlbühel
A morning shuttle brings you to the starting point of today’s walk. From here, the route leads through the mountain scenery around Gauxjoch and Hartkaserhöhe, offering beautiful views across the Kitzbühel Alps.
Several route options allow you to adapt the stage to your preferred level. If you would rather avoid the descent from Resterhöhe, you can take the Kitzbühel Alps Panorama Cable Car II. The cable-car ticket is not included. At the end of the walk, you continue by public bus to Mittersill.
Hotel (example): Hotel Heitzmann
In the morning, a transfer takes you from Mittersill to Matreier Tauernhaus. The standard route climbs through alpine meadows and fragrant larch forests towards the Venedigerblick viewpoint. From the highest point, you can enjoy an impressive panorama of the glaciers surrounding Großvenediger.
The walk continues along well-marked mountain paths with magnificent views of the surrounding peaks. After reaching Innergschlöß, often described as one of the most beautiful valley heads in the Eastern Alps, you return across peaceful alpine pastures to Matreier Tauernhaus. From here, you can travel to Matrei by public transport.
For a more challenging experience, you can begin at Hintersee and walk across the Felbertauern via the St. Pöltener Hütte to Matreier Tauernhaus.
Hotel (example): Hotel Hinteregger
After travelling by bus to Mariahilf, you begin today’s walk on shaded woodland trails. The route climbs gradually towards open alpine pastures and the Gsieser Törl, a historic mountain pass once used by smugglers travelling between Austria and Italy, particularly during the 1920s and 1930s.
From the pass, you can look across the valley towards the Prags Dolomites. The descent into the tranquil Gsiesertal passes several inviting mountain huts, including Oberberg, Kradorferalm and Messnerhütte. There are plenty of opportunities to sample South Tyrolean favourites such as dumplings, Kaiserschmarrn and apple strudel. Walking past without stopping may be today’s greatest challenge.
Hotel (example): Gsieserhof
The journey continues south, bringing the dramatic peaks of the Dolomites ever closer. From Gsiesertal, you climb at a steady and comfortable pace towards the crossing at Frondeign. Much of the route runs through shady woodland, making for a pleasant walk even on warmer days.
Those looking for an additional challenge can choose the more demanding option towards Schuieralm. The trail then winds downhill to Wahlen, where the landscape opens to reveal views of Neunerkofel, Haunold, Dürrenstein and the Höhlenstein Valley. The stage ends in Toblach.

In the morning, you travel by public bus to the Three Peaks viewpoint. Your walk begins across the open landscape of Rienzböden before continuing through the Rienztal Valley towards the iconic Three Peaks. These unmistakable mountains are the symbol of the Dolomites and form part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
You continue to the famous Dreizinnenhütte before walking beneath Paternkofel, a mountain that played an important role during the First World War. The route then descends into the beautiful Fischleintal Valley, where you catch the bus back to Toblach.
Alternatively, you can take the bus to Rifugio Auronzo and complete the shorter circular walk around the Three Peaks. You then return to Toblach by bus. Bus tickets are not included.

It is possible to park at the first hotel or nearby. Parking cannot be reserved in advance and must be arranged directly with the hotel (expect a cost of approximately €10–20 per day).

The price is based upon two people sharing. It is also possible travel alone in a single room. Simply choose "1 person" in the booking form and it will automatically add the single room surcharge.
On this tour you will be on your own supplied with maps, route descriptions and luggage transfers. That means that your time is your own and you have plenty of time to enjoy the stages in your own pace.

The booking process
When you book the trip, we will begin booking hotels and arranging all the practical aspects of your tour. This process typically takes 5–8 working days, but in some cases it may take longer for certain bookings. If you arrange your own transportation, we recommend waiting until we have confirmed your booking before making any arrangements.
Dates
If you can select a date in the trip calendar (in the booking form), then this is a possible start date. We regularly update our trips with sold-out dates; these dates will then appear in red/grey and cannot be selected.
The flights to/from Munich, Salzburg or Innsbruck are not included in the price. You can easily find a suitable flight via a flight booking engine such as Momondo or Skyscanner.

By train: Tyrol can be reached quickly and easily by train, via Munich with one of more than 25 daily direct connections to Tyrol.
By plane: Airport Munich, Salzburg or Innsbruck. There are many taxi companies that offer trips from all these cities to your starting point.

In the itinerary you can see some examples of the hotels we use on this tour. Notice that the hotels are examples and you may end up staying in different hotels. It depends on availability when you book the tour.
Breakfast is included every day. It is easy to find lunch in the small villages before the walks and you will have plenty of choices for dinner in the many restaurants.
Luggage transfer is included on this tour. Upon arrival at the first hotel you will be given luggage tags along with the rest of the welcome package. You fill out the luggage tags and put them on your bags where they will remain for the duration of the tour.
Your luggage is picked up from the hotel lobby around 9am every morning and will arrive at your next hotel at 6pm at the latest (often long before that). If there are any special exceptions to the luggage transfer you will be notified upon arrival.
Luggage transfer includes one bag per guest and the bags can weigh 20kg each.

Upon booking
Immediately after booking this trip, you'll recieve a pre-booking-email where you can get a complete overview of your booking. Once the tour is confirmed you get a confirmation email from us along with practical information about the tour.
One month before departure
You will receive a hotel list and final travel documents.
Upon arrival at the first hotel
You'll receive the welcome pack, which contains everything you need for the trip. There will be route descriptions, maps, luggage tags and specific local vouchers. The documents are in English.
Notice: On some tours it is necessary to either print the documents yourself or to bring them electronically.
Hiking in mountainous terrain such as the Dolomites and the Alps requires good preparation and respect for nature.
- Be in basic good physical shape before the trip
- Wear proper hiking shoes or boots
- Bring plenty of water and some food or snacks for the hike
- Dress appropriately for the conditions
- Use the provided map or GPS information (for example via the Bering Travel app) and stay on marked trails
- Bring a fully charged phone and a power bank
- Always check the weather forecast and the route before setting out as conditions can change quickly and your own safety should always come before reaching impressive viewpoints

When you book a trip with us, we plant a tree in Kenya.
Bering Travel partners with Growing Trees Network, which has been planting trees in Kenya since 2020 in collaboration with Seniorer uden Grænser (Seniors Without Borders). The trees are planted with small-scale local farmers in the Mount Kenya region, as well as at schools, where the fruit helps supplement students’ diets and is incorporated into their learning.
The trees are planted using the shamba method – a sustainable approach that combines reforestation with agricultural crops. This keeps the soil covered with vegetation throughout the year, helping to prevent nutrient loss and reduce erosion.
The contribution to tree planting comes directly from Bering Travel’s own earnings and is not added to the price of your trip.
This initiative is not intended as a carbon offset for travel, but as a way to make a positive contribution.
