Watch Video about this tour
Our colleague Katrine visited Bali to test this trip. She recorded lots of video footage from the dives during the journey, and you can watch it all here.
Itinerary
Upon arrival at the airport in Bali, you will be met and transferred to your hotel in Sanur.
After check-in, there will be a briefing at Crystal Divers where you will go through the programme for the upcoming diving holiday. If you arrive too late for the briefing, it will be moved to the following day.
Overnight stay in Sanur
On the days when there is no diving on the programme, there are plenty of opportunities to explore Bali or simply enjoy a relaxing day. For example, you can spend the day by the hotel pool and enjoy the wonderful tropical climate.
Sanur also offers a charming beachfront promenade stretching several kilometres along the coast. Here, you will find a wide selection of restaurants, cafés and small markets where you can experience the local atmosphere.
Just an hour’s drive from Sanur lies Ubud, which is an ideal destination for a day trip. The town is known for its unique culture, beautiful temples and lush nature. Here, you can visit the Monkey Forest, experience the iconic rice terraces, explore waterfalls in the area or wander around the Ubud Art Market. Ubud is also known as Bali’s spiritual centre with a strong focus on health, wellness and mindfulness, which is clearly reflected in the town’s many shops, spas and cafés.
You can also visit Canggu, which is a popular and lively area. Here, you will find trendy cafés, excellent restaurants and cosy beach bars. Canggu is especially known for its spectacular sunsets, which can be enjoyed directly from the beach or from one of the many beach bars. If you start missing a taste of home, there are even restaurants serving Danish dishes.
Uluwatu is another excellent excursion destination. The area is known for some of Bali’s most beautiful beaches and dramatic cliffs. Here, you can relax on the beach, enjoy the ocean views and watch the many surfers challenging the waves. At the same time, the area offers a wide range of atmospheric restaurants and small shops.
If you feel like spending a day shopping, we recommend visiting Beachwalk Shopping Center in Kuta. It is a modern and inviting open-air shopping centre with a large selection of shops, restaurants and cafés.
Overnight stay in Sanur
Today, one of the absolute highlights of the trip awaits as you head out to the world-famous Manta Point and the spectacular dive sites around Nusa Penida. The area is known as one of the best places in Bali to experience large manta rays in their natural surroundings, and many divers describe this day as one of the greatest moments of the journey.
During the day, you will complete 3 dives at different dive sites around the island. Beneath the surface, impressive coral reefs, dramatic underwater formations and rich marine life await you, ranging from colourful schools of fish and sea turtles to small macro creatures hidden among the corals.
The main attraction is, of course, the majestic manta rays, which can often be seen gliding calmly and elegantly through the water with their enormous wingspans. At the so-called “cleaning stations”, you may be lucky enough to get very close while the mantas circle above the reefs to be cleaned by small fish. It is an almost magical experience that even very experienced divers never tire of.
Visibility in the area is often excellent, and the combination of crystal-clear water, beautiful corals and the chance to encounter large marine animals makes this day truly special.
After the day’s diving, you will return to Sanur where the rest of the evening can be enjoyed with relaxation, good food and perhaps a cold drink overlooking the sea.
Overnight stay in Sanur
After breakfast, you will check out from the hotel in Sanur and head towards Tulamben on Bali’s north-eastern coast – an area known among divers worldwide for its fantastic underwater experiences and relaxed atmosphere.
On the way to Tulamben, you will stop at Padang Bai where the first dive of the day awaits. Padang Bai is one of Bali’s most popular diving areas and offers beautiful coral reefs, clear water and an impressively varied marine life. Here, you can experience everything from colourful reef fish and turtles to moray eels, octopuses and small fascinating macro creatures hidden among the corals.
During the day, you will complete 2 dives at different dive sites in the area. The underwater landscape varies between coral gardens, small rock formations and sandy bottoms, making the dives both diverse and exciting. Padang Bai is also known for its good conditions and pleasant currents, making the area suitable for many types of divers.
After the dives, the journey continues along Bali’s beautiful coastline towards Tulamben. Here, you will check in at the cosy Puri Madha Dive Resort, located close to the sea and the famous dive sites in the area.
The rest of the day can be spent relaxing by the pool, enjoying the views or preparing for the coming days’ great diving experiences at Tulamben’s iconic wrecks and coral reefs.
Overnight stay in Tulamben
Today, one of Bali’s most iconic diving experiences awaits as you dive at the world-famous USS Liberty wreck off the coast of Tulamben. The wreck is one of the most famous wreck dives in the world and attracts divers from across the globe with its fascinating history and impressive marine life.
USS Liberty was an American cargo ship from World War II, which today lies just a few metres from the shore surrounded by colourful corals and rich underwater life. Over time, the wreck has transformed into an artificial reef where nature has slowly taken over the ship and created a truly unique ecosystem.
During the day, you will complete 2 exciting day dives at the wreck and around the Tulamben area. Here, you can explore parts of the large shipwreck, swim between coral-covered structures and experience schools of fish, barracudas, parrotfish, moray eels and perhaps even sea turtles. The area is also known for its many small macro creatures hidden among the corals, making the dives especially interesting for underwater photographers.
When darkness falls, another very special experience awaits – a night dive at the USS Liberty wreck. Underwater, the atmosphere changes dramatically, and new species emerge from their hiding places. With your torch as the only light source, you will have the opportunity to experience the fascinating nightlife beneath the surface, where octopuses, crustaceans and nocturnal fish create an almost magical atmosphere.
For many divers, the night dive at USS Liberty is an experience they will never forget, and the combination of history, wreck diving and vibrant marine life makes this day one of the greatest highlights of the trip.
Overnight stay in Tulamben
Today, the diving experiences continue in the fantastic Tulamben area, known for some of Bali’s best and most varied dive sites. The day offers 3 exciting dives where you will have the opportunity to experience the impressive underwater world that has made the area popular among divers from all over the world.
Tulamben is especially known for its great variety beneath the surface. Here, you will find colourful coral reefs, volcanic underwater landscapes and rich marine life with both small and large species. During the dives, you may experience schools of tropical fish, parrotfish, moray eels and perhaps even larger pelagic fish passing by in the blue.
The area is also a true paradise for macro diving. Between the corals and black volcanic sand bottoms, countless fascinating small creatures are hidden, such as nudibranchs, seahorses, octopuses and shrimps in every colour and shape imaginable. This makes the dives especially exciting – particularly for those who enjoy searching for the small details underwater.
The various dive sites around Tulamben also offer beautiful underwater landscapes with coral gardens, small walls and lava rocks shaped by the area’s volcanic history. The combination of crystal-clear water, rich marine life and peaceful surroundings makes this another unforgettable day on your diving holiday in Bali.
After the day’s dives, you can enjoy the rest of the day at the resort, relax by the pool or simply let the impressions sink in while enjoying the ocean view.
Overnight stay in Tulamben
After breakfast, you will check out from the hotel in Tulamben, and the diving journey continues towards the charming Amed area located along Bali’s beautiful north-eastern coast. Amed is known for its peaceful surroundings, traditional fishing villages and, not least, some of the island’s most atmospheric dive sites.
During the day, you will complete 3 dives in the area around Amed, where beautiful coral reefs, colourful fish and exciting underwater landscapes await beneath the surface. Here, you can experience everything from large schools of tropical fish and beautiful coral formations to small macro creatures hidden among the corals and volcanic sand bottoms. The area is also known for its relaxed atmosphere underwater, where calm conditions often provide long and enjoyable dives with plenty of time to appreciate the details.
Between dives, you can enjoy views of the sea and the green mountain landscapes that make this part of Bali truly special. The combination of authentic Bali, the peaceful atmosphere and the beautiful dive sites makes Amed a favourite among many divers.
After the day’s final dive, the journey continues back to Sanur where you will check in at the hotel and enjoy the rest of the evening relaxing after yet another fantastic day beneath the surface.

In Sanur you will stay at either Hotel Taksu Sanur or Hotel Grand Palace. In Tulamben you will stay at Puri Madha Dive Resort. All rooms have aircondition and breakfast is included every day.
In order to take the diving licence, you must have completed this document. The rule is that if you can answer no to everything on page 1, you do not need to see a doctor. If you can answer yes to something, then you need to see a doctor and the doctor needs to complete and sign page 2.
Breakfast is included every day. On diving trips, lunch is included. There are many different places to eat near the hotel, so you'll have no problem getting great evening meals.
If you book the 14 dive tour, it requires that you already have a diving licence. If you don't have a diving licence, you can take it on this tour. It costs extra and you can opt for it when you book the tour.
The course is divided into three phases:
Theory - You learn the basic principles of diving
Confined Water dives - You'll make your first dives in a safe environment (e.g. a swimming pool). You will be trained in basic techniques.
Open Water dives - You'll make your first four dives in the ocean. Here you use the techniques you learnt in the previous confined water dives.
Upon completion, you'll receive an official PADI Open Water certification that you can use to have amazing diving experiences for the rest of your life anywhere in the world.
If you opt for a PADI OWD course, the first dive day (day 3) is replaced with a day of pool diving. Otherwise the programme is the same.
The option is made on the booking page
If you want to get around and see things in Bali, the cost of local transport is very low. Taxis start at 8000Rp and cost around 3000Rp per kilometre. Calling a taxi costs at least 10,000Rp. Remember to have the meter switched on or agree on a price before you leave.
The most common and cheapest form of public transport are Bemos - small pickups or minibuses that run all day long on fixed routes and stop almost everywhere. To stop a Bemo, wave it to the side. To get off, simply shout stop. Make sure you agree on the price before you get in the Bemo.
For longer journeys, the shuttle buses are recommended. They run on fixed routes between the major tourist areas of Bali, but are slightly more expensive than the Bemos. In Sanur, the shuttle buses depart from Jl. Hangtuah Road.
We recommend taking out travel insurance that covers at least illness, accident, repatriation, lost holiday, luggage and liability. As a customer, you are responsible for taking out the necessary travel insurance to cover these costs.
Before taking out insurance, you should check whether you are already covered by travel or cancellation insurance through your home insurance company, credit card or similar - please note that there may be differences in insurance coverage.
When you book a trip with us, we plant a tree in Kenya.
Bering Travel partners with Growing Trees Network, which has been planting trees in Kenya since 2020 in collaboration with Seniorer uden Grænser (Seniors Without Borders). The trees are planted with small-scale local farmers in the Mount Kenya region, as well as at schools, where the fruit helps supplement students’ diets and is incorporated into their learning.
The trees are planted using the shamba method – a sustainable approach that combines reforestation with agricultural crops. This keeps the soil covered with vegetation throughout the year, helping to prevent nutrient loss and reduce erosion.
The contribution to tree planting comes directly from Bering Travel’s own earnings and is not added to the price of your trip.
This initiative is not intended as a carbon offset for travel, but as a way to make a positive contribution.
