The route

The cycling routes in Piedmont take you through a varied landscape of vineyards, charming villages and beautiful lakes. You'll cycle between 38 and 61 km per day, mainly on quiet, paved country roads with little traffic and some dedicated cycle paths. The terrain alternates between flat stretches and rolling hills, with several smaller climbs and a few longer ascents. A reasonable level of fitness is therefore recommended, although the cycling itself is not technically demanding.

Itinerary

Please note that the order of the individual cycling routes may have been adjusted in the itinerary you receive upon arrival.

You'll arrive in the charming town of Romano Canavese, where you'll spend the next six nights at the lovely 4-star Hotel Sina Villa Matilde. Set in historic surroundings, the hotel is a wonderful base for the week's cycling adventures. If you have time after arriving, take a stroll through the town and soak up its medieval atmosphere before enjoying your first evening in Piedmont.

Today's cycling route takes you through the beautiful countryside around Romano Canavese to Lake Candia. Along the way, you'll explore parts of the landscape surrounding the Dora Baltea River and cycle through green moraine hills, where vineyards and small villages characterise the scenery. The route also passes through an area with historic connections to royal vineyards. At Lake Candia, you can take a well-deserved break, enjoy the views and perhaps go for a swim if the weather is inviting. Afterwards, you'll cycle back to the hotel.

Today's cycling route takes you to the historic town of Ivrea and the scenic lakes in the surrounding area. You'll follow part of an old pilgrimage route with connections to the Franciscan order, passing through a varied landscape of small towns, green hills and lovely viewpoints. Ivrea is a charming town with a fascinating history, making it a perfect place to stop and explore the historic centre. Along the way, you'll pass several of the area's lakes before returning towards Romano Canavese.

Today offers an exciting combination of city sightseeing and cycling through the northern Italian countryside. First, you'll take the train from Strambino to Turin, bringing your bikes on board. The train ticket is included in your holiday. In Turin, you can explore the city's elegant squares, historic buildings and welcoming cafés before setting off on today's cycling route. The route follows the Po River out of the city and continues through the beautiful countryside around Chivasso and Castello di Mazze before returning to your hotel.

Today's cycling route takes you to beautiful Lake Viverone, surrounded by green hills. It's an ideal place to stop by the water, enjoy lunch or take a refreshing swim. Along the way, you'll cycle through small villages and the region's characteristic moraine hills. If you fancy an extra challenge, you can take a detour to the impressive Castello di Masino, which stands high above the surrounding countryside and offers wonderful views. Please note that the road up to the castle includes a steep climb of approximately 2 km. Afterwards, you'll continue back to the hotel.

On your final day of cycling, you'll discover another beautiful part of the countryside around Romano Canavese. The route winds through green moraine hills, following small roads between villages and open fields. Along the way, you'll pass through the area around Castello di Pavone, an impressive medieval castle standing high above the surrounding landscape. It's a lovely way to end your week of cycling adventures, and the relatively short route leaves plenty of time to enjoy the scenery and perhaps finish the day with some relaxation at the hotel.

After breakfast, it's time to say goodbye to Piedmont and begin your journey home. Alternatively, you can choose to extend your stay by one or more additional nights if you'd like to spend a little more time enjoying the region.

Piedmont enjoys pleasant conditions for cycling from spring through autumn. In April and May, daytime temperatures typically reach around 17–21°C, with green and lush countryside. The summer months of June, July and August are warmer, with temperatures generally around 25–28°C, although particularly hot days can be even warmer. September often brings lovely cycling weather with temperatures around 23°C, while October is cooler at approximately 17°C during the day.

Rain showers are possible throughout the season, particularly in spring. We recommend bringing lightweight cycling clothes, sun protection, a waterproof jacket and an extra layer for cooler mornings. During the summer months, it is especially important to carry plenty of water on your rides.

Weather conditions can vary from year to year and from day to day, so we always recommend checking the local forecast before setting off on each day's cycling route.

When you book a trip with us, we plant a tree in Kenya.

Bering Travel partners with Growing Trees Network, which has been planting trees in Kenya since 2020 in collaboration with Seniorer uden Grænser (Seniors Without Borders). The trees are planted with small-scale local farmers in the Mount Kenya region, as well as at schools, where the fruit helps supplement students’ diets and is incorporated into their learning.

The trees are planted using the shamba method – a sustainable approach that combines reforestation with agricultural crops. This keeps the soil covered with vegetation throughout the year, helping to prevent nutrient loss and reduce erosion.

The contribution to tree planting comes directly from Bering Travel’s own earnings and is not added to the price of your trip.

This initiative is not intended as a carbon offset for travel, but as a way to make a positive contribution.
