The route

The tour is suitable for children over 14 years old.

Itinerary

See the day-by-day itinerary below.

Individual arrival at the hotel in Alberobello. This small town in the province of Bari is known for its Trulli stone buildings. The Trulli of Alberobello have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996.

Start from the famous town of Trullis and explore the surrounding areas by bike. Through wide olive groves, vineyards, fruit and almond trees, cycle to Noci, a small town with a historic centre. Return to Alberobello.

Today you will take a beautiful route to the spectacular caves of Castellana. The stalactite cave with its labyrinth of caverns is the largest underground tourist attraction in Italy and can be visited with a guided tour. The wide halls offer marvellous rock formations, stalagmites and stalactites, all formed over thousands of years. On the way back you can enjoy the view of the Adriatic Sea.

You start from Alberobello and cycle through the Valle d'Itria valley to Locorotondo. The fertile valley is one of the most beautiful cultural landscapes in the south. Curved walls of raised field stones tame nature. The name Locorotondo literally means ‘round place’. The town is also known as ‘La Città del Vino Bianco’ (the white wine town).

Then cycle on to Cisternino and Ostuni. The bright garland of houses that adorn the top of the three hills of the ‘Città Bianca’ (White City) can already be seen in the distance. Enjoy the stunning views of the nearby sea. In the afternoon there is a shuttle bus transfer back to Alberobello.

As an alternative to a rest day, you can also take a bike ride to the baroque town of Martina Franca. The city is located right in the centre between the Ionian and Adriatic Sea in southeastern Murgia. The impressive Palazzo Ducale and the Basilica di San Martino are among the most famous sights.

From Alberobello, cycle to Monopoli, the main harbour between Bari and Brindisi. Continue to Polignano a Mare, the pearl of the southern Costa di Bari, which captivates with its extraordinary location: it perches picturesquely on the edge of a steep coastline and offers stunning views of the emerald green sea. Stroll through the narrow streets of the old town or enjoy a daytime swim before taking the shuttle bus back to Alberobello.

Morning transfer to the cultural capital of Matera 2019 in the Basilicata region, also known as the ‘City of Sassi’. The old town is partly made up of cave settlements and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993. The impressive collections of cave dwellings form independent neighbourhoods that are unique in Europe.

The trip is now over and it's time to head home or out into the world.
