The Hohe Tauern National Park has given its name to this beautiful cycle path. The views of the snow-capped mountain peaks will excite you right from the start. The Salzach, Saalach and Inn river valleys lead you past a wide variety of flora and fauna, authentic cultural and culinary delights and genuine customs. This impressive diversity offered by the Tauern Cycle Path ensures that all your senses are truly awakened.
Highlights of the journey
The Tauern cycle path is mostly signposted and mainly follows quiet, paved cycle paths and country roads. The route is mainly flat or slightly hilly with some short climbs.
This tour is covered by our special easy cancellation policy up to 35 days before departure.
Depending on when you arrive, it's possible to spend the day visiting Europe's highest waterfall.

Today's stage takes you through the Hohe Tauern National Park and the Upper Pinzgau region. Stunning views of snow-capped peaks at three thousand metres will accompany you all the way. Your immediate surroundings will alternate between lush green meadows and cute little villages, providing you with an adventurous backdrop. In Kaprun, you can also take a trip to see the high mountain reservoirs.

Take the opportunity for a refreshing dip in Zeller See. You'll soon arrive in Saalfelden after cycling via the castle town of Maishofen and Maria Alm with its well-known pilgrim church. Maria Alm is a great place to stop for lunch. Other highlights on the way to Lofer are the Seisenberg Gorge and Lamprechtshöhle (Europe's deepest cave) near Weißbach.

On today's bike tour, you'll cycle along the tranquil Saalach valley. Bad Reichenhall, tucked away in a small corner of Germany, is sure to enchant you. It's only a short distance back before you arrive in Salzburg, the city of Mozart. The vast amount of culture found here will surely excite you. Make sure you have enough time to wander around the historic city and visit Mozart's birthplace.

In Oberndorf you can visit the ‘Silent Night Chapel’. Obendorf's extensive alluvial forests then lead you to Tittmoning. From there, follow the ‘Naturerlebnisweg Unterer Inn’ (Lower Inn Nature Trail) to Burghausen. A magnificent old town and the largest castle complex in Central Europe are the two most notable features of the city.

You'll cycle quietly along the Inn cycle path to the Gothic town of Braunau. Along the way you'll see many bird colonies nesting close to the river banks. You'll follow the German-Austrian border all the way until you reach Obernberg, where you'll spend the night. See the well-known market square and baroque architecture. Some guests will stay in Bad Füssing, a spa town.

The price is based upon two people sharing. It is also possible travel alone in a single room. Simply choose "1 person" in the booking form and it will automatically add the single room surcharge.
On this tour you will be on your own supplied with maps, route descriptions and luggage transfers. That means that your time is your own and you have plenty of time to enjoy the stages in your own pace.

When you book, we will start booking hotels and arranging all the practical details of the trip. This process typically takes 2-5 working days, but some bookings may take longer. If you are arranging your own transport, we recommend that you wait until we have confirmed your booking before arranging this.
Dates
If you can select the date in the tour calendar at the top of this page, this is a possible start date. We continually update the tours with sold-out dates, after which those dates will turn red and cannot be selected.
On all our cycling holidays it is possible bring your own bike but it also possible to rent a bike for the tour. The bikes you can rent are all perfectly suited for the tour and the local terrain and all bikes are perfectly maintained. If you want to rent a bike on your holiday, then you select this on the booking form.

Roadside assistance
All bikes are equipped with puncture resistant tyres which means that it is virtually impossible to puncture. No rule without exceptions, so should you experience a punctured tyre then you can quickly fix it by using the tools in the service-set. If the damage is greater than a simply puncture then you simply call us and we make sure that your bike is fixed or you will be supplied with a new bike as quickly as possible.
Insurance is included
Insurance against theft and damages are included in the bike rental. Should you have any problems of this nature then all you have to do is to let us know and we will supply a new bike as quickly as possible. Naturally, careless or mischievous behavior is exempt from this.
On this journey you can fly to Salzburg, Innsbruck or Munich. The flight from Denmark is not included in the price of the trip. We recommend that you find the flight yourself, for example via momondo

Get a quote
If you need us to organise your flight for you, you can request a quote for the trip including flights. It often takes about two days to get a quote. Please note that we charge a handling fee of DKK 350 per ticket, which means that you get the flight cheaper by booking it yourself.
Transfer back to Salzburg
On the booking form, you can choose whether you want a transfer from your last hotel in Passau or Salzburg back to Krimml. This is possible every day of the week. Transfers must be booked from home.
It is possible to choose between two different categories of accommodation on this trip:
Category A: 3- and 4-star hotels
Category B: 3-star hotels and inns
In the itinerary, you can see examples of the hotels we use most often on this journey. If the hotels are not available when you book your trip, we will book hotels of similar quality.
We can organise extra nights before, during or after the trip. Select this on the booking form if you wish.
Breakfast is included every day regardless of the hotel category you choose. It's easy to find lunch and dinner in the cities during the tour.
Luggage transfer is included on this tour. Upon arrival at the first hotel you will be given luggage tags along with the rest of the welcome package. You fill out the luggage tags and put them on your bags where they will remain for the duration of the tour.
Your luggage is picked up from the hotel lobby around 9am every morning and will arrive at your next hotel at 6pm at the latest (often long before that). If there are any special exceptions to the luggage transfer you will be notified upon arrival.
Luggage transfer includes one bag per guest and the bags can weigh 20kg each.

Upon booking
Immediately after booking this trip, you'll recieve a pre-booking-email where you can get a complete overview of your booking. Once the tour is confirmed you get a confirmation email from us along with practical information about the tour.
One month before departure
You will receive a hotel list and final travel documents.
Upon arrival at the first hotel
You'll receive the welcome pack, which contains everything you need for the trip. There will be route descriptions, maps, luggage tags, specific local vouchers and if you have rented a bike, they will also be handed out at the first hotel. The documents are in English.
Notice: On some tours it is necessary to either print the documents yourself or to bring them electronically.
This tour has difficulty grade 2.
Grade 2
For cyclists who like hilly terrain and a bit longer distances. You cycle on good roads, which usually don’t have much traffic. The distance is between 35 – 60 km or 20 – 38 miles. If you are capable of riding a bike and you have a normal good health, you should not worry about going on these tours.

We recommend taking out travel insurance that covers at least illness, accident, repatriation, lost holiday, luggage and liability. As a customer, you are responsible for taking out the necessary travel insurance to cover these costs.
