Greece - Taste diving in Kalymnos
This tour is for those who want to experience a beautiful Greek island and try scuba diving at the same time. We have included two days of diving. The first day is spent on a PADI Discover Scuba course, where you will get a feel for the equipment and principles of diving. The next day is two real dives. Everyone can join in.
Kalymnos is a small Greek paradise island just northwest of Kos. It is a place where time seems to slow down compared to the mainland and where you just naturally get into gear. On the island you will find small beaches, crystal clear waters, beautiful panoramic views and warmth - both from the people and the lovely weather.
The island has a long history of scuba diving and for years the island's main industry was diving for natural sponges in the sea around the island. Those days are over, however, and now only a few people still make a living selling natural sponges.
In the sea around Kalymnos you will find colourful sponges, bristle worms, nudibranchs, moray eels, octopuses and fish. The visibility of the water is really good and is often between 30 and 50 meters.
Kalymnos is also a famous climbing destination, so if you fancy a go, just let us know and the hotel staff will help you get there.

Hotel Kalypso***
Built in traditional Aegean style, Hotel Kalypso is equipped with a handful of modern amenities, including WiFi by the pool area. All 20 air-conditioned rooms are equipped with a kitchenette with fridge, hob, kitchenware, satellite TV with DVD player and private balcony overlooking the sea and Telendos Island.
The relaxed atmosphere around the outdoor pool area can get anyone down. In addition to the lovely pool, the Kalypsos grounds feature a sun terrace and shaded patio area where you can soak up the sun while enjoying snacks and drinks from the bar. If you fancy a change from sunbathing, the sandy beach is less than a 5-minute walk away. Of course, you can also enjoy the peaceful surroundings and beautiful beaches of Myrties, Masouri and Melitsahas, all within walking distance.
The hotel also offers yoga classes, massages, beauty treatments etc. for an additional fee.

You land at Kos airport and take a bus (4 euros per person) or a taxi (20 euros per taxi) to Mastichari, from where the ferry goes to Kalymnos. You buy a ticket for the ferry (about 10 euros per person) and enjoy a rather lovely boat trip in the southern Greek archipelago. When you arrive in Kalymnos, you again take a bus (2 euro per person) or a taxi (25 euro per taxi) to Hotel Kalypso in Kalymnos.
On arrival at the hotel you will be given the key to your room and settled in. Then it's time for a rest, a dip in the pool or something else.
You'll spend your days diving, relaxing, eating well and otherwise enjoying the lovely relaxed atmosphere of Kalymnos. There are two diving options each day. The first is in the morning and the second in the afternoon.
A little tip would be to take a day trip (or more) to the neighbouring island of Telendos and have a coffee at one of the tavernas there. It's great.
In the evening, we suggest you find a nice taverna (there are many of them) and enjoy the delicious food - where the vegetables, for some reason, just taste so much better.
Sadly the dive-holiday is over now and you head back home.

The price is based upon two people sharing. It is also possible travel alone in a single room. If you travel alone a single room is necessary.

The process of your booking
When you book, we will start booking hotels and arranging all the practical details of the trip. This process typically takes 2-5 working days, but some bookings may take longer. If you are arranging your own transport, we recommend that you wait until we have confirmed your booking before arranging this.
Dates
If you can select the date in the tour calendar at the top of this page, this is a possible start date. We continually update the tours with sold-out dates, after which those dates will turn red and cannot be selected.
It is very easy to get from the airport in Kos to the hotel in Kalymnos. Here is how it works:
1. You arrive at the airport in Kos. From here, you either take a bus (2 euro pr. person) or a taxi (15 euro pr. taxi) to Mastichari. It will be enough to say "Kalymnos" to the taxi driver or bus driver.
2. You buy a ticket (8 euro pr. person) and get on the ferry. The trip takes 20-40 minutes depending on whether you are on the fast or slow ferry.
3. When you arrive at Kalymnos you either take a bus (2 euro pr. person) or a taxi (15 euro pr. taxi) to Hotel Elies in Panormos.
If you are in doubt about anything, you can always call the hotel or Bering Travel.
On this tour breakfast is included in the price. There are a lot of restaurants within walking distance of the hotel.
