The route
You need to be in good physical condition to complete the long daily stages of this tour. There are a few exposed sections, so it is important to have a steady footing and no fear of heights – both balance and confidence at altitude are required.
The first half of the tour is the most demanding, especially up to Bourg-Saint-Maurice, where several stages include steep ascents and technical descents. After Bourg-Saint-Maurice, the route gradually becomes easier and more relaxed, both in terms of terrain and distance.
With the right preparation and determination, this is a magnificent hiking experience that rewards you generously along the way.
Itinerary

Early in the morning, you will be transferred to Trient, where your hiking adventure truly begins. The first stage starts with the ascent to the spectacular Col de Balme pass at 2,191 meters. Here, you can take a well-deserved break in a cozy mountain lodge and enjoy the breathtaking views of Mont Blanc and the vast Chamonix Valley.
From there, the route descends through lush alpine pastures where cows and goats graze peacefully, and where the serene beauty of the mountains surrounds you. The highlight of the day is the hike along the impressive ridge trail of l’Aiguillette des Posettes. This section leads you through rugged, rocky terrain – rewarded with an unforgettable 360-degree panorama of the area’s many glaciers and towering peaks.
The descent continues on a steep trail, later following a gentle mountain stream all the way to your destination, Argentière. It is a fantastic day of hiking in the very heart of the Alps – surrounded by some of the highest and most impressive mountains in Europe.

Hiking at over 2,000 meters, you arrive at Plan Praz, where a cozy café with breathtaking views of Mont Blanc awaits. From here, you can take the cable car down to the legendary Alpine town of Chamonix, known for its rich history and vibrant atmosphere, as well as its status as a mecca for mountaineers and nature lovers.

The day begins in comfort as you take the cable car up to about 2,000 meters – without breaking a sweat. From here, it’s only a short hike to Col du Brévent (2,368 m), where the ascent towards the magnificent Brévent summit begins. The final stretch, over rocks and large boulders, leads you to a viewing platform often called “the best viewpoint of Mont Blanc” – and with good reason.
From the top, you’ll be rewarded with a breathtaking panorama of the Mont Blanc massif, its glaciers, and snow-covered peaks stretching across the horizon. The route then continues along a scenic mountain trail past the distinctive Lac du Brévent, before leading down to the cozy Bel-Lachat refuge, where you can enjoy a well-deserved break.
After resting, the hike continues through forest and alpine meadows, passing the charming wildlife reserve of Merlet, where you might be lucky enough to spot chamois or marmots. The descent ends in Les Houches, a cluster of small villages nestled in the lush Arve Valley, where glacier meltwater flows as clear rivers through the landscape.
Tonight’s accommodation is in one of the welcoming mountain villages of the Les Houches area – a peaceful and scenic ending to a day full of highlights.

Today’s hike offers a wonderful mix of culture, nature, and alpine adventure. You begin by experiencing the legendary Mont Blanc Tramway up close, following part of the trail along the tracks to the spectacularly located Bellevue mountain station, where the cog railway ends – close to the glacier’s edge and with breathtaking views.
From here, the trail continues along an exciting and scenic mountain path that takes you to a swaying suspension bridge over a roaring glacial stream – a small adrenaline-filled thrill in the midst of the mountains’ grandeur. The route then leads through open alpine meadows and up to the Col de Tricot pass at 2,120 meters, where the views once again take your breath away.
On the descent, you pass the welcoming Miage huts, often buzzing with life and mountain atmosphere. After another gentle climb, you reach the peaceful Truc Alp, where you can take a well-deserved break. Sit back, enjoy your packed lunch, and listen to the sound of cowbells from the animals grazing freely at altitude.
The day’s destination is Les Contamines, a charming mountain village in the Montjoie Valley, known for its many alpine cheese dairies and authentic Savoyard character. We highly recommend visiting a local dairy shop to taste the region’s famous cheeses – best enjoyed with a glass of red wine and freshly baked baguette. The perfect ending to a rich and sensory day of hiking!

Today’s stage is one of the most impressive of the entire tour and will set every hiker’s heart racing. You follow historic trails once used by Roman soldiers, moving through dramatic landscapes of rushing mountain streams, colorful rock formations, and breathtaking views of glacial lakes and alpine peaks.
The hike begins gently along the river, leading you to the baroque pilgrimage church of Notre Dame de la Gorge, beautifully situated at the entrance to a gorge. From here, the ascent begins towards the day’s two highlights – Col du Bonhomme (2,329 m) and later Col de la Croix du Bonhomme (2,450 m). You follow a rocky but stunningly beautiful alpine path, where each step draws you deeper into the heart of the southern Mont Blanc massif, opening up vast views over the French Alps.
At the top, you can take a well-deserved break at the traditional Refuge de la Croix du Bonhomme, a classic mountain hut run by the French Alpine Club – the perfect spot to enjoy both the scenery and a little refreshment.
From there, the route descends through green alpine meadows, where small mountain streams cross the trail and where the silence is broken only by birdsong and the sound of flowing water. The day ends in the small village of Les Chapieux, from where a short transfer takes you to Bourg-Saint-Maurice for your overnight stay.
Here, you can sit back, enjoy a glass of wine, and let the impressions of yet another unforgettable day in the Alps sink in.

After a short transfer, today’s hike begins in the impressive Vallée des Glaciers – the Glacier Valley. From here, you ascend towards the iconic mountain pass Col de la Seigne (2,516 m), where you cross the border from France into Italy, while a magnificent panorama of the Mont Blanc massif unfolds before you.
The trail continues through flower-filled alpine meadows as you step onto the Italian side of the Alps, which feels both wild and welcoming. Soon, you reach the charming and authentic mountain lodge Rifugio Elisabetta, a popular stop for both hikers and mountaineers. Here, you can pause and perhaps enjoy an espresso or some hearty Italian mountain food with glacier views.
If time and energy allow, you can make a short detour to the turquoise-blue Lacs de Miage, a postcard-perfect glacial lake. From there, the route continues to Chalet du Miage, where a transfer (or local bus, depending on the season) brings you to Courmayeur – Italy’s answer to Chamonix, and home to legendary mountain guides and alpinists.
Courmayeur is a charming Alpine town with an unmistakable Italian atmosphere, cozy cafés, and a wealth of history. It is the perfect place to end a day filled with majestic landscapes, cross-border panoramas, and classic alpine spirit – all without worrying about your luggage, which Bering Travel will, of course, have delivered in good time.

Today’s hike showcases some of the most spectacular scenery the Italian side of Mont Blanc has to offer. You begin with an ascent to Rifugio Bertone, a classic mountain lodge with stunning views, before following a scenic trail that winds along the mountainside. Here, the landscape opens up in full scale – with constant views of snow-covered peaks and deep valleys.
Midway along the route, you reach the famous Rifugio Bonatti, named after the legendary Italian alpinist Walter Bonatti. This is the perfect place to rest your legs and enjoy an espresso or a light lunch on the sunny terrace – with a direct view of Mont Blanc’s majestic wall. An unforgettable moment!
The hike continues across small bridges and streams, as the trail winds its way to Arnouva, idyllically situated at the end of the valley at 1,800 meters. It’s hard to imagine a more peaceful and breathtaking alpine valley than Val Ferret – lush, wild, and utterly irresistible.
From Arnouva, you take a local bus back to Courmayeur, where you can once again soak up the town’s Italian charm and alpine atmosphere.

After breakfast, a bus takes you back to the idyllic Val Ferret, where today’s hike begins. You start with the ascent to the impressive Col Ferret (2,500 m), which marks the border between Italy and Switzerland – and at the same time, the gateway to the beautiful Swiss region of Valais (Wallis).
The views from the pass are magnificent: behind you, the dramatic peaks of the Italian Alps and the Mont Blanc massif, and ahead of you, Switzerland’s green valleys and peaceful alpine landscapes.
On the descent, you walk through lush meadows where the sound of cowbells creates a tranquil backdrop, and you’ll have the chance to pause at one of the cozy mountain lodges serving local specialties – often fresh milk, cheese, and homemade bread.
The day’s destination is La Fouly, a peaceful little mountain village surrounded by steep cliffs and green slopes. Here, relaxation and Alpine romance in Swiss style await – the perfect reward after a day filled with both heights and harmony.

Today’s hike is more relaxed, yet still filled with natural beauty and Alpine charm. You follow the blue alpine river Dranse, which winds its way through the valley, accompanying you past steep rock faces, forests, and lush mountain meadows.
Along the way, you pass through small, traditional mountain villages where stone houses with slate roofs and old maize fields tell stories of the region’s history and culture. It almost feels like stepping into a living postcard from the Swiss Alps.
Later in the day, the route ascends along the so-called “Murmeltierweg” (Marmot Trail) – a delightful path where, with a bit of luck, you might spot the shy alpine marmots. The trail leads you up to Champex, a picturesque mountain town known for its dense forests and crystal-clear lake, beautifully framed by surrounding peaks.
Champex is a tranquil and enchanting place, perfect for a relaxing evening with views of the lake – and an ideal base before the final stages of your Mont Blanc adventure.

The final hiking day offers a wonderful mix of peaceful forest trails, blooming alpine meadows, and magnificent views. You begin with a pleasant descent through woods and meadows to Plan de l’Au, where the ascent towards today’s high-alpine highlight begins.
The trail takes you up through green hillsides to the charming Bovine refuge, spectacularly located with a panoramic view over the Rhône Valley and the jagged, dramatic peaks rising all around you. Here, you can pause among alpine roses and gentians, soaking in the unique atmosphere found only in the Swiss Alps.
From there, the route descends toward Trient, a small alpine village known for its rose-colored church and the glittering glaciers crowning the nearby peaks – a beautiful and symbolic finale to your Tour du Mont Blanc.
From Trient, you are transferred back to Martigny, where your adventure began – now enriched with experiences, panoramas, and memories from three countries and some of Europe’s most spectacular mountain landscapes.
