Dramatic sunset over a Bali beach with palm trees swaying in the wind, colorful clouds reflecting on wet sand, and boats anchored offshore.

The essentials at a glance

This diving holiday in Bali offers 14 guided dives at spectacular sites including the USAT Liberty Wreck in Tulamben, Manta Point at Nusa Penida, and the diverse reefs of Padang Bai and Amed. The tour includes accommodation in Sanur, all diving equipment, daily breakfast, and transport to dive sites. Between diving days, explore Ubud's temples and rice terraces, Canggu's beach bars, or Uluwatu's dramatic cliffs. Optional PADI certification courses available.

On this diving holiday, you will explore some of the most spectacular dive sites around Bali. The trip includes all diving equipment, daily breakfast, snacks, and local fees. Diving in Bali is an incredible experience, and our guides will make sure you get the very best out of every dive.

You will experience dives such as Tulamben (3 dives), Manta Point/Nusa Penida (3 dives), Candidasa (for Advanced divers) or Padang Bai (for Open Water divers) (2 dives), and Amed (3 dives). Expect unforgettable encounters for both macro enthusiasts and divers hoping to see larger marine life.

There are many reasons why Bali, among Indonesia’s 13,000 islands, has become the country’s number one holiday destination. The setting is perfect – the climate is pleasant, the sun generous, the scenery breathtakingly beautiful, and the culture rich and fascinating. But what truly makes Bali a unique experience, what genuinely captivates and enchants visitors, is the Balinese spirit and joy of life.

The Balinese people are warm, smiling, and welcoming. Despite the increasing number of tourists, they have managed to preserve their culture and fundamental outlook on life. This quality is closely connected to Bali’s unique form of Hinduism. In addition to the belief in many different Hindu gods, where Sanghyang Widhi is considered the most important, the Balinese also live with an almost animistic belief that every tree and every stone has its own soul. Reincarnation is also an important part of the Balinese worldview, and in the hope of a better life after this one, the Balinese strive to live in harmony with themselves and their surroundings. As a visitor to Bali, religion is experienced both as a relaxed and natural part of everyday life and through colourful processions and ceremonies.

Diving Certificate
It is possible to complete a PADI Open Water course (diving certificate) on this tour. This can be selected when booking the trip. If you choose this option, the diving certification will take place during the first dives, and the first two dives will be replaced by pool training sessions. Apart from this, the program remains the same.

Watch the Video

Our colleague Katrine travelled to Bali to test this tour. She captured plenty of footage from the dives throughout the trip, and here you can watch it all.

Itinerary

See the day-by-day itinerary below.

You'll arrive at the airport in Denpasar, where you'll be picked up and taken to your hotel. For the rest of the day you can relax and enjoy being in Bali!

On the days where no diving is scheduled, there are plenty of opportunities to explore Bali or simply enjoy a relaxing day. You may choose to spend the day by the hotel pool and soak up the wonderful tropical climate.

Sanur also offers a charming beachfront promenade stretching several kilometres along the coast. Here you will find a wide selection of restaurants, cafés, and small markets where you can experience the local atmosphere.

Just an hour’s drive from Sanur lies Ubud, making it a perfect destination for a day trip. The town is famous for its unique culture, beautiful temples, and lush scenery. Here you can visit the Monkey Forest, experience the iconic rice terraces, explore nearby waterfalls, or browse the stalls at Ubud Art Market. Ubud is also known as the spiritual centre of Bali, with a strong focus on health, wellness, and mindfulness, which is clearly reflected in the town’s many shops, spas, and cafés.

You can also visit Canggu, a popular and lively area known for its trendy cafés, excellent restaurants, and cosy beach bars. Canggu is especially famous for its spectacular sunsets, which can be enjoyed directly from the beach or from one of the many beachfront bars. If you start missing a taste of home, there are even restaurants serving Danish dishes.

Uluwatu is another excellent excursion destination. The area is known for some of Bali’s most beautiful beaches and dramatic cliffside coastlines. Here you can relax on the beach, enjoy the ocean views, and watch surfers taking on the waves. The area also offers a wide selection of atmospheric restaurants and small boutiques.

If you feel like spending a day shopping, we recommend a visit to Beachwalk Shopping Center in Kuta. It is a modern and inviting open-air shopping centre with a large selection of shops, restaurants, and cafés.

In Tulamben, you will have the opportunity to dive at the famous USAT Liberty Wreck. The wreck is approximately 120 metres long and today rests at depths of up to around 30 metres.

The USAT Liberty was used as a cargo ship towards the end of World War I. In 1942, it was torpedoed by a Japanese submarine off the coast of Lombok. The ship took on a large amount of water but did not sink, and it was therefore towed to the shore near Tulamben, where it was beached.

When Mount Agung erupted in 1963, triggering powerful earthquakes, the wreck was pushed away from the beach and down onto the seabed, where it remains today.

The dive at the USAT Liberty is one of Bali’s most iconic dive experiences and offers incredibly rich marine life. Here you may encounter turtles, octopuses, and a wide variety of colourful tropical fish — and with a bit of luck, even reef sharks.

The transfer from Sanur to Tulamben takes approximately three hours each way, but the journey offers beautiful scenery and also provides a glimpse into local life on Bali.

Today, you have two options. If you are Advanced divers, you will head to Candi Dasa, while Open Water divers will dive in Padang Bai. There will be 2 dives today.

Candi Dasa (Advanced Divers)
Around one and a half hours’ drive from Sanur lies the charming coastal town of Candi Dasa. From here, you will continue by boat to the small islands of Tepekong, Mimpang, and Gili Biaha, all renowned for their exceptional diving.

At Tepekong, you will find exciting underwater landscapes with small caves and rock formations that can be explored while diving through them. The area is also home to several mola-mola cleaning stations, offering excellent opportunities to encounter this fascinating fish.

Mimpang is the smallest of the three islands, yet it still offers impressive marine life and beautiful coral reefs. There are often fewer divers here, creating a calmer and more authentic diving experience.

Gili Biaha is especially famous for its so-called “Shark Houses” — small caves and rock formations where sharks are often found resting. Thanks to the excellent visibility, it is possible to observe them clearly, even when they are inside the caves.

Padang Bai (Open Water Divers)
Padang Bai is located approximately one hour from Sanur and offers some of Bali’s most diverse diving opportunities. The area is home to several popular dive sites, including Blue Lagoon, Tanjung Sari, Jepun, and Bias Tugal.

What these dive sites have in common are beautiful coral reefs, abundant marine life, and visibility typically ranging from 10–20 metres. During the dives, you may be lucky enough to encounter octopuses, rays, and colourful nudibranchs. Padang Bai is also an excellent destination for underwater photography.

On the days where no diving is scheduled, there are plenty of opportunities to explore Bali or simply enjoy a relaxing day. You may choose to spend the day by the hotel pool and soak up the wonderful tropical climate.

The area is especially famous for its impressive visibility of up to 30 metres and depths reaching as far as 40 metres. Marine life is rich and diverse, and there is a good chance of encountering manta rays, mola mola, and many other fascinating sea creatures.

Water temperatures typically range between 20 and 30 degrees Celsius depending on the season, making the area attractive for diving all year round. Several of the dive sites around Nusa Penida are also ideal for drift dives, where the current gently carries you across colourful reefs and vibrant marine life.

Amed is located approximately two hours’ drive from Sanur and is known as one of the best places in Bali to experience macro marine life. The black sandy seabed is the result of the area’s volcanic activity and creates a unique contrast to the colourful underwater world.

The area is also home to a Japanese shipwreck from World War II. The wreck has been underwater for so many years that it is now covered in coral and serves as a habitat for a wide variety of marine species.

The dive is suitable for both Open Water and Advanced certified divers, as the wreck lies at a depth of around 15 metres. During the dive, you may encounter turtles, seahorses, and many fascinating macro species.

If you would like a flight included, or changes made to the trip, you can request a customized offer by clicking the "Get Quote" button at the top of the page. Remember to describe in detail what changes you would like.

The booking process
When you book the trip, we will begin booking hotels and arranging all the practical aspects of your tour. This process typically takes 5–8 working days, but in some cases it may take longer for certain bookings. If you arrange your own transportation, we recommend waiting until we have confirmed your booking before making any arrangements.

Dates
If you can select a date in the trip calendar (in the booking form), then this is a possible start date. We regularly update our trips with sold-out dates; these dates will then appear in red/grey and cannot be selected.

Flights to Bali (Denpasar) are not included in the price of the trip. We recommend that you find the flights yourself, for example via momondo.
We recommend that you wait until we have confirmed your journey before arranging transport.

Here's how it works:

  1.     You book the journey with us
  2.     We confirm your journey (usually within 2-5 business days)
  3.     You arrange your transport

Book a quote
If you need us to organise your flight for you, you can request a quote for the trip including flights. It often takes about two days to get a quote. Please note that we charge a handling fee of DKK 350 per ticket, which means that you get the flight cheaper by booking it yourself.

You'll stay at Hotel Taksu Sanur or Hotel Grand Palace in an air-conditioned room and breakfast is included every day.

In order to take the diving licence, you must have completed this document. The rule is that if you can answer no to everything on page 1, you do not need to see a doctor. If you can answer yes to something, then you need to see a doctor and the doctor needs to complete and sign page 2.

Breakfast is included every day. On diving trips, lunch is included. There are many different places to eat near the hotel, so you'll have no problem getting great evening meals.

If you book the 14 dive tour, it requires that you already have a diving licence. If you don't have a diving licence, you can take it on this tour. It costs extra and you can opt for it when you book the tour.

The course is divided into three phases:

Theory - You learn the basic principles of diving
Confined Water dives - You'll make your first dives in a safe environment (e.g. a swimming pool). You will be trained in basic techniques.
Open Water dives - You'll make your first four dives in the ocean. Here you use the techniques you learnt in the previous confined water dives.

Upon completion, you'll receive an official PADI Open Water certification that you can use to have amazing diving experiences for the rest of your life anywhere in the world.

If you opt for a PADI OWD course, the first dive day (day 3) is replaced with a day of pool diving. Otherwise the programme is the same.
The option is made on the booking page

If you want to get around and see things in Bali, the cost of local transport is very low. Taxis start at 8000Rp and cost around 3000Rp per kilometre. Calling a taxi costs at least 10,000Rp. Remember to have the meter switched on or agree on a price before you leave.

The most common and cheapest form of public transport are Bemos - small pickups or minibuses that run all day long on fixed routes and stop almost everywhere. To stop a Bemo, wave it to the side. To get off, simply shout stop. Make sure you agree on the price before you get in the Bemo.

For longer journeys, the shuttle buses are recommended. They run on fixed routes between the major tourist areas of Bali, but are slightly more expensive than the Bemos. In Sanur, the shuttle buses depart from Jl. Hangtuah Road.

We recommend taking out travel insurance that covers at least illness, accident, repatriation, lost holiday, luggage and liability. As a customer, you are responsible for taking out the necessary travel insurance to cover these costs.

Before taking out insurance, you should check whether you are already covered by travel or cancellation insurance through your home insurance company, credit card or similar - please note that there may be differences in insurance coverage.

When you book a trip with us, we plant a tree in Kenya.

Bering Travel partners with Growing Trees Network, which has been planting trees in Kenya since 2020 in collaboration with Seniorer uden Grænser (Seniors Without Borders). The trees are planted with small-scale local farmers in the Mount Kenya region, as well as at schools, where the fruit helps supplement students’ diets and is incorporated into their learning.

The trees are planted using the shamba method – a sustainable approach that combines reforestation with agricultural crops. This keeps the soil covered with vegetation throughout the year, helping to prevent nutrient loss and reduce erosion.

The contribution to tree planting comes directly from Bering Travel’s own earnings and is not added to the price of your trip.

This initiative is not intended as a carbon offset for travel, but as a way to make a positive contribution.
