Go hiking in idyllic England

Come on a fantastic walking holiday in beautiful England! Discover the Cotswold, Hadrian's Wall, Lake District and Coast-to-Coast.

Dreaming of soft green hills, idyllic villages and beautiful walks? Then England is probably a country you should take a closer look at. We've decided to add England as a brand new destination for 2024 - it's hard to resist such a beautiful country. We have four brand new tours on the programme, so we're sure there will be something for you!

Good to know about England:

  • In the UK you pay in pounds. It is possible to pay by card almost everywhere, but it can still be a good idea to have some cash with you.

  • The weather in England is very similar to the weather in Denmark. There can be days with sun and rain - and days with a bit of both. It's always a good idea to have a rain jacket in your bag and good waterproof walking shoes. The weather can change quickly, especially in the mountains, so it's important to be aware and check the weather forecast before you set off. Also, remember to dress in layers so that you can take off and put on layers depending on the temperature.

  • England is known for its many pubs, but it's worth knowing that they often close around 11pm on weekdays and around midnight on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

  • England has a ‘right to roam’ policy, which means you have the right to explore pretty much any area - even if it's privately owned. Of course, it's important to respect property rights and follow local signs and directions.

Come to the Cotswold and experience true English idyll

The Cotswolds is a beautiful area in the centre of England that spans six distinct areas - Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Warwickshire, Wiltshire, Worcestershire and Bath & North East Somerset. The area is best known for its idyllic landscapes, picturesque villages and distinctive architecture. Many of the houses here are built from the distinctive ‘Cotswold stone’, a honey-coloured limestone that gives the villages their unique appearance.

The landscape of the Cotswolds is characterised by rolling hills, green valleys, rivers and forests - it doesn't get much more postcard-perfect than the Cotswold. So if you're looking to experience the English idyll and take home some fairytale pictures for your scrapbook, then the Cotswold Way is probably for you.

The Cotswold Way is a 163km long-distance route that takes you through some of the most beautiful villages in England. It starts in the medieval market town of Chipping Campden in the North Cotswolds and ends in the historic city of Bath, where we highly recommend an extra night or two if time permits.

On this tour you'll fly to either Birmingham or London. From here it's possible to take a train to Chipping Campdem, where the tour starts.

This tour is for those who:

Dream of true English postcard idyll

Like to wander through cosy, small villages

Want to experience the historic city of Bath

Can walk an average of 23 kilometres a day on nice trails in slightly hilly terrain

Feel history up close along Hadrian's Wall

Hadrian's Wall is an impressive historical monument that stretches across the north of England. The wall was built during the reign of the Roman Emperor Hadrian in the 2nd century AD to mark and protect the northern border of the Roman Empire in England. Its main purpose was to prevent invasions from the Celtic tribes in what is now Scotland and control trade and immigration.

It's an impressive structure that stretches some 117 kilometres from east to west - from Wallsend near Newcastle in the east to the Solway Firth in the west. The landscape around Hadrian's Wall is varied and beautiful. To the south there are hills and green landscapes, while to the north you'll encounter the more rugged and wild terrain that stretches into the Scottish Highlands. This also means you'll experience beautiful and varied scenery as you walk along the Hadrian's Wall Path - the very first National Trail in England to follow the course of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The most dramatic part of the walk is in the centre of the route, where the scenery is most impressive and where large sections of the wall still remain. Here you'll also find some of the best preserved fortresses to explore.

On this tour you'll travel to Edinburgh or Manchester, from where it's just a short train ride to Newcastle where the tour starts.

This tour is for you:

Are interested in history and want to combine it with an active holiday

Enjoy dramatic landscapes

Would like to try one of England's most famous long-distance routes

Can walk an average of around 24km a day on good trails but in hilly terrain

Follow in the footsteps of English poets and be inspired in the Lake District

Maybe you've heard of it before or maybe this is the first time you've heard the name Lake District. Either way, we recommend you read on. The Lake District is an area you won't want to miss. The Lake District National Park was established back in 1951 to preserve the area's natural beauty and unique environment, and in 2017 it became a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The area is also known for being the place where some of the great English writers and poets found inspiration. One of them was the poet William Wordsworth, whose 1802 poem ‘I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud’ was inspired by the sight of daffodils on the banks of Ullswater - a poem whose meaning is still analysed today.

There are many ways to experience the Lake District and one of them is to walk the 112 kilometre Cumbria Way. Stretching from the town of Ulverston on the shores of Morecambe Bay to the town of Carlisle, which is closer to the border between England and Scotland, the route takes you through some of the most stunning scenery in the Lake District. The tour mainly follows paths in the valleys, avoiding the highest mountains and climbs.

On this tour you'll travel to Manchester, from where you can easily take the train to Ulverston, where the tour starts.

This tour is for you:

Have a poet in you and want to experience the place where some of the greatest English poets found inspiration

Want to experience magnificent landscapes of lakes, mountains and forests

Likes UNESCO World Heritage sites

Who dream of English idylls and cosy towns

Can walk an average of 18 kilometres a day on fine trails in mountainous terrain with longer ascents and descents

Walk across England, from coast to coast, on one of England's most famous walking routes

Dreaming of taking on one of the big boys in the class? Then this walk might just be perfect for you. At 303km in length, the Coast to Coast route is not for the faint-hearted. The entire route takes 18 days to complete, 16 of which are walking days. And yes, it's long and hard, but it's well worth it. You'll experience some of England's most impressive landscapes - from the rolling hills of the beautiful Lake District, the historic Vale of Mowbray to the wide open spaces of the North York Moors. Each section of the route opens up a new experience. The route itself consists of relatively good paths and roads. However, there are some tough climbs along the route, especially in the Lake District area, so your fitness will be tested.

The Coast to Coast route was the brainchild of British author and walker Alfred Wainwright. He took pre-existing paths and routes and combined them into one continuous route, which became known as the iconic Coast to Coasts route. He completed his own journey along the route in 1972 and documented his experience in a book ‘A Coast to Coast Walk,’ which he also illustrated.

It's an incredible walk, with a landscape so beautiful and unique that it's hard to truly understand until you've been there. We can also understand if hiking for so many days can be a little overwhelming, so it's possible to shorten the trip so you can still experience some of this impressive walk.

On this tour, you'll travel to Manchester, from where you'll take the train to St Bees, where the tour starts.

This tour is for you:

Who wants to be able to boast about walking 303 kilometres in just under 2 weeks

Want to experience one of England's most famous long-distance walking routes

Who thrives on long walking days and sometimes quite steep climbs

Who want to experience three of England's beautiful national parks: Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and Vale of York

Who are up for an amazing challenge
