- Active holiday in the land of contrasts -
Spain has it all. Sun, beach and sea meet picturesque landscapes, diverse flora and fauna and time-honoured traditions meet diverse culture. We organise walking holidays in the perfect locations in Spain and would love to tell you more about this beautiful country.
When you think of Spain, you probably think of the Balearic and Canary Islands or the famous metropolises such as Barcelona and Madrid. However, Spain has so much more to offer its visitors. Spain is a country of contrasts and is a mosaic of diverse culture, flamenco, regionally varied food and is a perfect destination for active holidays. It's not for nothing that Spain has 44 UNESCO sites - and is so rich in history.
Five islands make up the Balearic Islands: Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza, Formentera and Cabrera. The beautiful island of Mallorca is a popular destination for travellers from all over the world. No wonder, as the island in the middle of the Mediterranean offers countless memorable experiences that keep people coming back year after year. There are big impressions in store here whether you're on a Hiking Holiday in the Tramuntana or are on the Hiking and Delicious Villages tour. Mallorca combines great hiking routes with beautiful unspoilt beaches and fantastic food like nowhere else. Neighbouring island Menorca is smaller and quieter, but is at least as beautiful. The 'Camí de Cavalls' route is a feast for the soul and the eye, with secluded coves, beautiful sandy beaches and impressive cliffs - Menorca is perfect for an active holiday. In short, Mallorca and Menorca are perfect holiday destinations.
The seven Canary Islands - Islas Canarias - are the perfect melting pot of Spain's versatility. Located in the east-central Atlantic, the islands offer endless variety from wonderful white and black sand beaches, flat and rugged coastlines, sleepy and bustling villages and unique routes for walkers and pilgrims alike. There is something here for every walker, sunbather and active holiday enthusiast in general. Tenerife, Lanzarote, El Hierro, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, La Gomera and La Palma - all volcanic islands with something for walkers. Walking holidays along beautiful coastlines have something special about them. Not only are you always steps away from a dip, but you also have the lovely fresh air of the sea - it really does make both body and mind enjoy life to the full. In the heart of Spain, there are several great hiking experiences. Hikers can experience the Walking Holiday in Central Spain near Valencia, a magnificent Walking Holiday in the Heart of the Pyrenees or walk the Camino from Sarria to Santiago de Compostela. The latter pilgrimage has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993. The route offers 800 kilometres of unique culture and history and there is plenty of time to both explore and relax along the way. We have several routes along the Camino and you can choose whether to walk the last 100km from Sarria to Santiago de Compostela, or whether to walk from Sarria and all the way to Finisterre (end of the world).
Spain is a perfect active holiday destination 365 days a year. The climate in Spain is extremely varied and lends itself particularly well to walking holidays. No matter when you want to travel, you can find a place in Spain where the temperature is neither too high nor too low for a nice walking holiday.
Spanish everyday life fits perfectly with the Mediterranean lifestyle. It means that appointments are a touch more 'flexible' than what we're used to here, people take time to talk to each other and although tempers can seem fiery, every day starts off calmly. After a hard day's work, the focus is on relaxation and enjoyment - with family, of course, a top priority for Spaniards. Although there are many differences between Spain's various ethnic groups and the culture of different parts of the country, all Spaniards share their warm, outgoing and hospitable disposition. And what would Spain be without the distinctive symbols and traditions that are rooted throughout the country. For example, the famous art form - and one of the most important cultural symbols: flameco! A combination of dance and music from Andalusia. Another well-known cultural tradition is bullfighting, which is now banned in parts of Spain such as the Balearic Islands.

Spanish cuisine has everything good from the sea. Each region has its own culinary treasures, contributing to a varied range of traditional dishes. Regional dishes are influenced by the local climate. Spaniards eat late and typically start with a small breakfast of coffee and perhaps a slice of bread. From 14 - 17 there is a siesta, during which Spaniards often drive home, relax and have a leisurely lunch. Around 9pm, dinner is eaten. Spanish cuisine has many simmering dishes, fresh vegetables, beef, ham, seafood, cheese, olive oil and heavenly desserts accompanied by lovely local wines.
All Spaniards from north to south have one thing in common: a passion for Tapas.
Tapas is many things and is really the term for a number of small dishes that can be different things. It could be the famous Spanish ham 'Jamón Ibérico', small fried peppers 'Pimientos de Padrón', grilled octopus 'Calamares', prawns in garlic 'Gambas Al Ajillo', delicious potatoes 'Patatas bravas', potato omelette 'Tortilla', green and black olives, different kinds of cheese such as 'Manchego' or delicious filled pastries 'Empanadas'. There is something for everyone.
