- Walking from Santiago to the end of the world -
This walk goes from Santiago de Compostela all the way to the Atlantic Ocean. The road to Finisterre and Muxia also has a special place with pilgrims. The terrain changes as you approach the coast and the paths here are less well trodden than you will experience on the first part of the walk. It is an ideal walk for those who want to experience the tranquillity of the journey towards the sea and the diversity of the terrain in this part of Spain.
It is a challenging walk with good food and wine along the Pilgrim's Route, where you can experience local customs, meet other pilgrims and enjoy the unique atmosphere all around. A fantastic walking holiday.
You arrive in Santiago de Compostela and can explore the atmospheric old town. When you check in at your hotel, you will receive your welcome kit, which contains all the information you need to fully enjoy this self-guided walking holiday.
As you leave Santiago, be sure to look back at the city to savour the memorable views. The rest of the day's walk takes you through green forests and fields interspersed with villages. You'll cross a Roman bridge and end the stage in the cosy town of Ponte Maceira.
Note: Your accommodation today is off the route and you will be staying here for two nights. This means that after the day's hike, call the accommodation and they will come and pick you up. The next morning you will be driven back to the route.
Walking time: approx. 5 hours
Distance: approx. 17 km
It's a good idea to start early and have a good breakfast so you can tackle the long, gradual climb out of Negreira. Once you've reached the ridge, enjoy the beautiful forest paths, peaceful country roads and beautiful scenery all the way to the village of Santa Mariña.
Note: Today you will call the hotel again, who will pick you up after the day's hike and bring you back the next morning.
Walking time: about 5½ hours
Distance: approximately 24 km
This stage is relatively short, so you can start late to recover from the previous day. Follow the country roads and enjoy the scenery as you ascend to Monte Aro before the final descent to the village of Olveiroa.
Walking time: about 3 hours
Distance: approximately 13 km
Today's walk is mostly along pleasant, small paths and, together with the sight of the Atlantic Ocean that also meets you today, it helps to keep spirits high. This part of the Finisterre camion takes you along the Logoso river and past a small church. From here it's downhill through a grove of pine trees before the first glimpses of the Atlantic meet you. The encounter with the sea is emotional for many pilgrims - the further they have walked, the greater the joy. You arrive in Cee, a lively fishing village with lots of small shops and a Sunday market with plenty of shopping opportunities.
Walking time: about 4½ hours
Distance: approx. 20km
The last day of walking takes you through the town of Corcubion, a picturesque little seaside town that attracts many artists.
The path from here meanders along the rocky coastline, over sandbanks and around the bay to Cape Finisterre. There's a special atmosphere here as you stand at Europe's westernmost point and look out over the Atlantic Ocean towards the horizon where sky and sea meet.
Walking time: about 3 - 5 hours
Distance: about 13km or 20km if you want to walk all the way to the lighthouse and back to Finisterre
After breakfast, check-out and individual return.

Family-run hotels and guesthouses have been handpicked for their character and warm hospitality. The standard is 2-3 star tourist class. The hotels are centrally located in the towns and close to the Pilgrims' Route. In rare cases it may be necessary to book accommodation further from the route, but in those cases transfers will be included so as not to affect the walking programme.
The standard package includes breakfast.
The food will vary depending on the area, as each area has its own seasonal and local dishes and specialties. For example, the fish will be more common in Galicia, the northern coast and the Portuguese coastal regions than in other areas inside the country.
Regarding lunch, we recommend that you either buy it at a local store. You can also eat at small cafes along the way. Your route notes will contain guidelines for where you can get food and water.
Luggage transfer is included on this tour. Upon arrival at the first hotel you will be given luggage tags along with the rest of the welcome package. You fill out the luggage tags and put them on your bags where they will remain for the duration of the tour.
Your luggage is picked up from the hotel lobby around 9am every morning and will arrive at your next hotel at 6pm at the latest (often long before that). If there are any special exceptions to the luggage transfer you will be notified upon arrival.
Luggage transfer includes one bag per guest and the bags can weigh 20kg each.
