The 10 most popular walking holidays in 2022

See which walking holidays we think will be extra popular in 2022.

Walking holidays are becoming more and more popular and it makes complete sense. Few other types of holiday are so straightforward, while offering such a high level of cultural, natural and culinary experiences. Of course, it's only good to get moving and use your body actively on holiday.

From year to year, we can see trends around where most people choose to travel. We have our bestsellers, of course, but there are still water holidays that experience extra popularity some years.

Walking the Camino

It's unmissable. The Camino remains one of the most popular walking holidays out there. This is not least because walking the Camino combines beautiful hiking routes with cultural experiences. It is the history of the Camino that makes it so special. There's just something about walking on the same paths where pilgrims have walked for hundreds of years.

We have several different versions of the Camino and below you can see the two most popular routes.

Walking the Dolomites

This has actually been under way for many years, but the Dolomites are becoming more and more popular with hikers. The area can be a bit tricky to get to - if you're not driving yourself - but once you get there, it's all worth it. The mountains are magnificent, beautiful and the culture in the area is just super nice.

We have even more tours in the Dolomites this year, which you can see by clicking on the picture below.

Walking the Via Francigena in Italy

Again, there is just something about history and pilgrims. The Via Francigena from Lucca to Siena remains an excellent route and it's great to walk in Tuscany, staying in beautiful and well-preserved medieval villages along the way. The towns of Lucca and Siena are particularly appealing (because they're incredible), but the towns in between are at least as exciting.

We have the Via Francigena from Lucca to Siena, which you can see by clicking on the link below.

Walking holiday in Montenegro

Here comes a real up-and-coming hiking destination. Montenegro is a hugely beautiful place and is still so much a niche destination that the routes are certainly not overcrowded. We're mostly into the routes along the coast, where you can jump in the water in the evening and rest your feet.

Tour du Mont Blanc

This route has been one of the most popular hiking routes in Europe for years. The walk from Les Contamines to Chamonix is both varied and challenging, so its popularity is quite understandable. You can read our blog post about the "dangerous" passages around Mont Blanc by clicking here.

This walking holiday has been one of our bestsellers for years. You can read more about the trip by clicking on the link below.

Walking holiday in Slovenia

The Julian Alps are a beautiful area of rugged peaks and green valleys. Hiking trails in Triglav National Park are becoming increasingly popular and although the area is by no means "touristy", hikers from all over the world are starting to take notice.

Our hiking holidays in the Julian Alps used to be quite popular, but already this year we see good signs that it is growing.

Walking along the Amalfi Coast

The Amalfi Coast is a beautiful area of Italy. The area has always been very popular and it is now well known that the routes along the Amalfi Coast are fantastic. The Path of the Gods is probably the best known route, but the others are just as impressive.

On our Amalfi Coast walking holiday, unlike many others, you stay only in the popular coastal towns.

Trekking in Nepal

We have always had a special focus on Nepal and the Himalayas are absolutely stunning. The trips are long, beautiful and full of experiences in the encounter with the Nepalese culture. The Everest Base Camp Trek has always been very popular, but we are now finding that just as many people are asking for the Annapurna Base Camp Trek and the Manaslu Circuit.

Walking holiday in Scotland: West Highland Way

The West Highland Way is one of our most popular new walking holidays. The route is world famous and the scenery is also so beautiful that it's hard not to yearn for the Highlands. We're seeing signs that this trip will be particularly popular in 2022.

Walking holiday in Switzerland: Via Alpina Bear Trek

There are probably some who read "Bear Trek" and get an image of a trip where you have to watch out for bears all the time. Fortunately, you don't have to, as there have been no bears in the area for years. Via Alpina was one of our most popular hiking trips in 2021 and we can already see that the same will be true in 2022.
