Rural, peaceful, sincere and hospitable: this is how the Alsace region presents itself on your walk between vineyards and along the slopes of the Vosges. Enjoy the old townscapes, the romantic wine villages and the impressive castles, and nature enthusiasts will be particularly fascinated by the unspoilt and varied landscape. Last but not least, there is the superb cuisine of this stunning region, which combines Alsatian warmth and French sophistication to create wonderful culinary delights. The route takes you through a fantastic cultural region with vineyards, picturesque country estates and villages with castles, palaces and ruins.
More about the route
The terrain is hilly, with well-marked footpaths (mainly gravel and meadow paths) and some paved sections. With a walking time of between 4.5 and 6.5 hours, a basic level of fitness is sufficient. A varied route awaits you through the wonderful wine-growing countryside of the Alsace region.
Eguisheim, located in the heart of the wine route, is an excellent example of a medieval town with flower-decorated house facades. This wine village invites you for a leisurely stroll and a wine tasting.
Ascend through the vast wine landscape to the small wine village of Husseren and continue uphill to the three castles of Eguisheim. From Hohlandsberg Castle you have an unforgettable view of the surrounding wine villages and the Alsatian plain. The tour ends in Turckheim, an idyllic wine village. At 10pm on the dot you will still be able to find the night watchman walking around the small town.
From Turckheim the tour goes through the famous vineyards Katzenthal and Käferkopf. After Katzenthal, you climb to the top of Bornthalkopf mountain and reach the wine region around Kaysersberg. The location, the unique silhouette and the stunning half-timbered houses crown Kaysersberg as one of the most beautiful villages along the wine route.
Leave the Alsatian wine-growing region and take a walk in the Vosges with magnificent views of the Rhine plain, the Black Forest and the Alps. Continue through forests and partly rocky areas covered with mountain pines, and continue up to Petit Hohnack and Grand Hohnack. After the Croix de Wihr pass, the route takes you downhill to Munster, where the aromatic Munster cheese originates at the foot of the Col de la Gorge pass.
On today's tour, you're still in the lower Vosges, with rolling hills and landscapes of vineyards, castles and scattered forests. Via the Wasserberg mountain, the small medieval town of Wasserbourg and Mühlkopf, you head towards Wintzfelden, returning to the Alsatian wine-growing region.
Once again, a hike with many beautiful views awaits you. The path is high above the valley and you will enjoy the view of the wine villages nestled in the vineyards. You will walk through the picturesque Alsace wine region and approach the starting point of Eguisheim, where the circle of your hike ends.
The walking holiday is now over and you will leave the hotel in the morning.
