Austria - Walking in Salzkammergut - 5 days

With the great lakes, the lush vegetation and the breathtaking peaks from the Alps rising in the background, the Austrian Salzkammergut is an incredibly picturesque place for walking. UNESCO has also put the whole Hallstatt area on both its natural and cultural World Heritage lists, and this walking holiday is a great opportunity to see and enjoy the magnificent scenery in your own pace.

The well maintained walking paths lead you amongst others to the imperial town of Bad Ischl, the famous villages of St. Wolfgang and Hallstatt, which is beautifully situated on each their own lakeshores, surrounded by a stunningly beautiful landscape. 

8-day walking holiday. You will stay at three-star tourist class hotels, where breakfast is included and your luggage will be transferred between hotels.

Day 1 Arrival at the first hotel in Wolfgangsee or Abersee

It is possible to take a local bus to Wolfgangsee from Salzburg and Bad Ischl.
(Salzburg about 1 hour / Bad Ischl about 30 min.).

Day 2 From Wolfgangsee to Bad Ischl

From St. Wolfgang on Saddle walk to lake Schwarzensee. Here the lake cabin of Lore is worth a break with its delicious homemade snacks. Via Wirer gorge into the valley and around Bürglstein to the lake promenade of Strobl. By coach to the old Imperial summer residence Bad Ischl.

Day 3 From Bad Ischl to Bad Goisern

Salt always has been an important source of income in the Salzkammergut. The oldest brine pipeline of the world leads from Hallstatt’s salt mine to the salt works in Bad Ischl. Walk along the promenade into Kaltenbachau, a site of Imperial amusements such as horse races, picnics and rendezvous. On the brine pipeline trail to Bad Goisern, the gateway to UNESCO heritage Hallstatt.

Day 4 From Bad Goisern to Wolfgangsee

By train to Bad Ischl. Along the romantic Sissi-Path you walk to the tiny lake Nussensee then along river Ischl back to lake Wolfgangsee. Through the nature reserve Blinklingmoos along the lake back to today’s stop-over.

After breakfast  you will check out of the hotel for departure. Or book extra days, if you wish to stay longer.

General information

The price is based on at least two participants accommodated in a double or twin room.

- Please note that it is 'land only' prices.

On this tour you are on your own without a tour guide. We have arranged for overnight stays, route descriptions and maps, but you must organize your own transportation to the starting point of the destination.

Dates of departure
You can go on this trip from the 18th of April to the 4th of October 2016

Please note: that transportation to and from the destination in Austria is NOT included in the package, and that you have to make sure to book your own flights. It is your responsibility to ensure that the flight schedule fits the beginning and end dates of your trip. We recommend that you book the trip with us before you buy your plane tickets.
You can fly to Salzburg and from there take a bus to the Wolfgangsee (about 1 hour) - Alternatively, take the train to Bad Ischl and bus to the Wolfgangsee from there (about 30 min.) 
Alternatively you can fly to Munich, and take the train to Salzburg from there.

You will stay at 3-star tourist class hotels in respectively Wolfgangsee/Abersee, Bad Goisern and Bad Ischl. 

Food and beverage

Breakfast is included at all hotels.

It is also possible to purchase Half Board (minimum 3-course dinner all evenings) Price € 160,- p.p.

Walking with a dog

On this trip it is possible to bring your dog. Should this be of interest, please make a note of the dogs breed and size. You can provide this information in the comments section when booking the trip. Possible additional cost are payable locally on site.

Cancellation Insurance

Cancellation Insurance is the customer's own responsibility. When you book a trip with us, you should consider whether you want to take out cancellation insurance against sudden illness, or whether you are already covered. You have to arrange the cancellation insurance in you home country.

Travel insurance
We highly recommend that you are covered by a good travel insurance covering at least Medical Expenses, Illness, Personal Accident, Baggage and Repatriation. The customer is responsible to take the necessary travel insurance that covers these costs. Mountain Adventures, or our local partners, do not have any responsibility for our customers not being covered by a necessary travel insurance. You have to arrange your insurance in your home country.
Passports and Visa

It is the customer’s responsibility to have a valid passport. It is also the customer’s responsibility to seek and obtain any necessary visa for travelling to the booked destination. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months after the expected return. Note that there may be special visa requirements for different foreign nationalities. Please note that processing time for visas to some countries may be several weeks. Mountain Adventures have no responsibility for any lack of travel documents. Be aware of any transit visa requirements.

We advise you to contact a medical specialist or your personal doctor or a licensed vaccination clinic. In case vaccination is recommended it is advised to bring your vaccination certificate when traveling.

When booking the trip, you will receive all relevant pre-tour information. On individual self-guided tours trip notes, maps and other destination material will be given to you upon arrival at the first accommodation.
