Day 7 Rest day in Aqaba

Today you have the freedom to create your own programme and enjoy all that this charming city has to offer. Aqaba is not only a paradise for divers, but also a destination that offers an abundance of relaxing and enriching experiences.

Start your day with a delicious breakfast at the hotel, where you can savour authentic Jordanian dishes and fresh fruits. Once energised, take a relaxing stroll along Aqaba's beautiful seafront promenade. Listen to the waves caressing the shore and feel the gentle breeze from the Red Sea that brings a refreshing sense of calm.

To understand Aqaba's rich history and culture, visit some of the city's historical sights. Aqaba Fort, also known as Aqaba Citadel, is a must-see. This ancient fort, dating back to the 16th century, offers stunning views of the city and the sea. Walk around the fort and let your imagination take you back in time when Aqaba was an important trading post for caravans crossing the desert.

As lunch approaches, savour a delicious seafood dish at one of the local restaurants on the waterfront. Aqaba is known for its fresh seafood and you can indulge in delicious dishes prepared with local ingredients and traditional recipes.

After lunch, visit some of the colourful bazaars and markets scattered around the city. Here you can find everything from traditional crafts and textiles to spices and souvenirs. Stroll through the lively streets and interact with the friendly local traders who are always happy to welcome visitors.

As evening approaches, end your day of rest with a beautiful sunset view. Head to one of the beach bars or take a stroll along the beach to admire the enchanting spectacle as the sun slowly sinks into the horizon, colouring the sky in shades of red and orange.

With Aqaba's many options, a rest day here is a great opportunity to recharge body and soul before heading home tomorrow.

Dive spots

Here you can see a list of some of the many excellent dives you can experience in Aqaba, Jordan.

Cedar Pride
Wreck dive with or without penetration. This wreck is large (more than 80 metres from bow to stern) and there's something for everyone. You can have an experience without going deeper than 18 metres and you can see the entire wreck without going deeper than 26 metres. The wreck lies on its side and is incredibly well preserved and decorated with coral. It is possible to swim under the wreck as it lies on two coral reefs that form a small "valley" that you can dive through at about 26 metres. It is also possible to penetrate the wreck and at one point you can head into an air pocket inside the wreck at 22 metres, this dive is one of the most popular. As a "little" bonus, there is a great chance of encountering the large Napoleon wrasse that inhabits the wreck. It is very photogenic and not particularly shy.

Tarmac 5
A bark wreck where Tec divers can enjoy themselves at about 50 metres. This wreck is located in connection with Cedar Pride.

The Tank / The Tank
A tank that was emptied of harmful/hazardous substances and submerged at a depth of about 6 metres, where it now stands and decorates with a gun turret, corals and a nice population of colourful fish that live around it. The tank is visited in conjunction with either Oliver's Canyon or 7 Sisters.

7 Sisters
A fantastic nature dive, with colourful corals and seven large gorgonians (that's the 7 sisters). The area has a rich aquamarine life with lots of rays, moray eels and anemones with their anemone fish, as well as the possibility of seeing seahorses.

Oliver's Canyon
An incredibly beautiful reef dive where you dive through a valley with colourful coral slopes on either side and rich fish life.

Japanese Garden
A very large reef area with colourful corals and even a new reef in the works. The Jordanians have moved corals from an area that was to be used as a harbour to this area and planted them here, giving you the opportunity to see a coral reef in its infancy.

There's a good chance of seeing a rather large sea turtle in the Japanese Garden. It apparently lives by one of the gorgonians and isn't particularly shy as long as you give it room to swim away when it's tired.

Japanese Garden is a great place for macro life and nudibranchs. A dive where you need to take it very slow and easy to get the full experience. The area is large and diverse enough for many dives. You can choose several different routes through the garden and one of the routes goes to the edge of the reef and down to about 36 metres - on this trip Manta Rays have been seen.

Eel Garden and Eel Canyon
Two different dive sites, with garden eels as the common denominator. It's incredibly fascinating to see these eels tailing out of their holes in large numbers, both dives also have seahorses on the programme if you're lucky.

Gorgon 1 and Gorgon 2
Two different sites. On both dives you can see large gorgonians and enjoy the abundance of life around them, there is an amazing amount of Lionfish in these areas, as well as all the other fish that belong on a real coral reef in the red sea.

Cable Reef
An area with four large coral reefs populated with lots of colourful corals and associated wildlife. The fourth reef has large cables that are becoming overgrown with coral and it's an amazing experience to swim between the cables.

First Bay North
A unique area with a huge coral reef ranging from 2 metres to deeper than 40 metres. Here there are plenty of opportunities to dive on coral walls and explore the incredible variety of coral types that the red sea has to offer.

Power Station
A true world-class deep dive. The dive develops in plateaus that get deeper and deeper. You can pretty much continue down as far as you are certified and want to go.

Accommodation

On this trip you will stay at the 5-star hotel Double Tree by Hilton. Find out more about the hotel via this link.

When booking your trip, you can choose to upgrade the hotels to either Mövenpick Aqaba***** or Al Manara***** in standard rooms.

Food & Drink

Breakfast is included every day. Lunch is served on the boat during the diving trips and is included in the price of the trip. Lunch is not included on Day 7. Dinner is not included in the price, but Aqaba is full of fine dining options.

PADI Courses

It is possible to get a diving licence on this trip. In this case, please note that the included dives will be cancelled and replaced by a 3-5 day PADI Open Water course. You opt for a diving licence when you book the trip. The diving course is taken on board the boat, so it's no problem that some people take the diving certificate while others dive. You will still be travelling on the same dive trips.

Please note that if you choose the PADI Open Water Course or Advanced Open Water Course, the trip does not cost extra, but it is necessary to purchase a PADI E-learning course and do the theory from home. This costs around 200 euro and can be purchased on the PADI website.
