Cycling holiday in the most beautiful landscapes between Venice and Vicenza.
From lagoons and sandy beaches at the foot of the Alps, to the gentle hills of Monti Berici and Euganean, and the green riverbanks along Adige and Sile. It's the delightful variety of landscapes that this journey through Veneto offers.
The cultural highlights include the lagoon-filled city of Venice, Palladio's city - Vicenza, and Bassano del Grappa with its famous medieval covered wooden bridge. Along the way, you'll discover picturesque villages and the many vineyards where Prosecco and other delicious wines are produced. This string of experiences is connected by ideal cycling routes.
The hotels on this tour have been specially selected with a focus on quality and location and are all 4-star rated.
You'll be cycling on a predominantly flat route with a few steeper but very short climbs, such as the one leading to Asolo. Most roads are paved, and in some places, you'll cycle on well-trodden nature trails. The trip is not very physically demanding and falls into the mild end of category 2.
In addition to historic cities like Treviso or Rovigo, beautiful beaches invite you to relax. In the lagoon city of Venice, you can explore the Rialto Bridge and the Doge's Palace. Bassano del Grappa is renowned for its exquisite grappa, an Italian brandy made from grape must. You can enjoy a tasting and explore the charming town, which is also home to the iconic covered wooden bridge, Ponte degli Alpini, spanning the Brenta River.
Depending on when you arrive, you can spend the day visiting the "floating Island" of Venice (the famous city centre), which is only 20 minutes from your hotel, which is located on the mainland, and easily accessible by public transport.
The day begins with a welcome meeting about the tour and customisation of your bikes. You will then cycle along the cycle path over the Liberty Bridge to the famous Venice. You will take the ferry to Lido and continue your cycling tour via Pellestrina, with wonderful views of the sea, to Chioggia, a quiet little town that reminds you of Venice's maritime heyday. Take advantage of the town and visit one of its classic seafood restaurants.
Before you start today's stage, take some extra time to savour the atmosphere of the Venetian lagoon. The main route today follows the old river course of the Bacchiglione, once used by cargo ships, the so-called "burci". When you arrive in Abano Terme, the beautiful thermal pools will be waiting for you at the hotel.
Once again, the Bacchiglione River is your guide. Through lush fields, the journey continues to Vicenza. The city that the star architect of the Middle Ages, Palladio, helped make world famous. Countless manor houses and palaces based on his blue prints still characterise the cityscape today. The Teatro Olimpico and Basilica are a must for any visitor. On the tour, there is also plenty of opportunity to find a beautiful spot for a well-deserved cappuccino break.
From Vicenza, cycle along pleasant roads to Marostica, famous for its castle and stone chessboard in the town square. Now you are not far from Bassano del Grappa, with its Ponte degli Alpini - the covered wooden bridge and famous grappa. At the Poli Grappa Museum, a small grappa tasting session is organised for you when you arrive.
In the morning you willl cycle up some small hills, after which only the climb to Asolo awaits, it is hard but short. The idyllic village with Roman roots invites you to take a break. The route then descends gently and you will cycle into the area of the world-famous Prosecco fields and on to Treviso with its many sights.
Firstly, the path leads you along the river Sile. Just before Casier you will pass the 'Cimitero dei Burci' - a cemetery for the old cargo boats. This is followed by Casier and Casale - two small, pretty villages with characteristic bell towers. From here it is not far back to the starting point of the tour. Your accommodation is located on the mainland before Venice with excellent bus connections into the 'floating city'. At the end of your tour, not far from St Mark's Square in Venice, you can look forward to a small final grappa tasting.
After breakfast, you will check out and continue onwards on your own.
