Croatia - Walking and Island Hopping in Croatia

Dubrovnik, also known as the pearl of the Adriatic and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the focal point of this holiday. The city's history and heritage make it a unique Mediterranean location, but the tour will also take in other beautiful areas and islands around Dubrovnik, such as Konavle and the islands of Mljet and Šipan. The beautiful landscapes, paths and villages, the delicious food and the friendly people guarantee a wonderful holiday.

More about the tour
Relatively low level of difficulty. The stages are slightly longer than on many other hikes and the altitude differences require a good basic level of fitness, so the tour is ideal for those used to long walks.

Day 3 The Island of Lopud

After breakfast you will have a transfer to Gruz port to catch a boat across to Lopud Island, a crossing of just under an hour.
Nowadays Lopud is a charming and relatively quiet place with good beaches and without cars or traffic, home to a permanent population of under 300 people. In the past however, Lopud was a very important port, with great strategic importance - in the 17th century it is said to have had a population of 14,000 people, mostly involved in seafaring.

Formally part of the Republic of Dubrovnik, from the 18th to the early 20th centuries, the French, English and Austrians took turns controlling this strategically located little island. Nowadays there are reminders of the island's more momentous maritime past with the atmospheric ruins of a fortress and palace, churches dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries and a restored Franciscan monastery.

You will have the day to walk around the island and enjoy its beaches before returning to Dubrovnik in the afternoon.

approx. 2 hours
Day 4 Island of Sipan

In the morning a transfer is arranged to Dubrovnik harbour, from where you take the ferry to the largest of the Elafiti islands, Šipan. The ferry docks at the town of Sudjuradj, and from there you'll head to another small town, Šipanska Luka.

The road from Sudjuradj to Šipanska Luka passes through a landscape of lush fields. In the 15th century, several of Dubrovnik's aristocratic families built summer residences on Šipan, and the Sorkocevic family residence in Šipanska Luka is particularly worth a visit. In Šipanska Luka you can also taste the local cuisine and have a swim or just enjoy the beautiful sea view. In the late afternoon, you will return to the port of Sudjuradj, where the ferry will take you back to Dubrovnik. Overnight in Dubrovnik.

Day 5 Island of Mljet

Mljet, or "the green island" as it is known, is one of Croatia's eight national parks. The island is known for its beautiful, unspoilt nature, and its olive groves, vineyards and lush forests are home to a wealth of wildlife. Arriving in Mljet by ferry from Dubrovnik, the hike starts in the town of Polace and continues towards Montokuc mountain, from where there are stunning views of the island. You then head down towards the village of Soline, which is located on one of the lakes, and here you can take a swim before heading back to Polace. Today's route can be covered in about four hours.

Day 6 Island of Mljet

Most of Mljet is a national park, and there are several villages, two saltwater lakes - Veliko and Malo Jezero - and a Benedictine monastery located on the island of Sv. Marija (Virgin Mary). Today's route can be covered at leisure in about four hours, and we recommend that you have lunch at the small restaurant on the island of Sv. Marija, from where there is a beautiful view.
