France - GR10 ➤ Section 6 - Aulus les Bains to Mérens

The GR10 hike from Aulus-les-bains to Mérens in Haute Ariége links the western and central Pyrenees with the Ariège part of the mountain range. This region is known for its high plateaus, deep valleys bordered by high peaks - sometimes covered in snow and mountain lakes of changing colours. In the evening, the delicious regional dishes will give you energy for the next day's hike.

After a week of fantastic hiking between mountains, mountain lakes, lakes and in deep valleys, you will finally arrive in Mérens, the gateway to Capcir and Andorra.

About the route
The walks follow good footpaths and the terrain is varied and often rocky. The route is marked in most places, but there may be challenges in some places, where you will have to follow the material you will be given by us. To go on this trip we recommend that you are in good shape and have experience of hiking in the mountains.

Day 7 Rulhe refuge to Mérens

This is the last hike of the sixth section of the GR10 from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean and today's hike is very nice. You have to start the hike early in the morning and follow the GR10 past two beautiful mountain lakes before reaching the train station in Mérens.

Walking time: approx. 5½ hours
Distance: 12,5km
+330 / -1460

Note: On our walking holidays we would normally have a night in the last town before checking out in the morning. However, on our GR10 treks we finish the sections without the last night because the next section has this "arrival night" included. Today you therefore have several options:

  1. If your walking holiday is only this section, you can either let the tour end with the arrival in the town, then continue to the airport or back to your car - or you can choose to add an "extra night in the last town" on the booking form.
  2. If you are walking several sections of the GR10, you don't need to choose an extra night here because it is already included in the next section (you can, however, choose an extra night anyway if you want a rest day).
