Spain - Windsurfing in Fuerteventura, 1 week

This tour is for everyone who wants to windsurf. You do not need any previous experience or any particular fitness-level. All you need is to show up ready for sun, fun, the beach and a lot of windsurfing. On this windsurf holiday you can choose between course and/or equipment rental. You will be spending your days on the beach and your evenings in the Surf Hostel with the other participants.

Scholars have had a hard time coming to an agreement about what Fuerteventura actually means. Most can agree that “Fuerte” means “strong”, but when it comes to the word “Ventura” no one can agree whether or not it means “luck”, “wind” or “adventure”. Honestly, this distinction doesn’t really matter, because all three words are spot on.

Fuerteventura is the second largest of the Canary Islands is the island closest to the African coast (only around 100km). The island is not quite as crowded as many of neighboring islands and this is despite the fact that the island boasts some of the best beaches in Europe – which is of course very convenient when you are going on a windsurf holiday.

There is plenty of wind in Fuerteventura and that is exactly what makes this place a world famous windsurf spot. During this tour you will stay in the northernmost town, Corralejo, where the Surf Hostel is located. And you will be surfing at Flag Beach.

A small, cozy, and simple Surf Hostel consisting of seven rooms (single rooms, double rooms, and triple rooms), two shared kitchens, and two shared showers/toilets. The hostel also has a living room and a roof terrace which is often used to socialize in the evenings. You need to be 18 years old to stay in the Surf Hostel. The windsurf course

The windsurfing course on this tour is suitable for anyone who wants to learn how to windsurf. Even though Flag Beach is widely regarded as a prime spot for experienced windsurfers, there is a beautiful lagoon only 20 minutes away. In the lagoon the water is only about one meter deep with a sandy bottom. This is where all beginner courses take place.

The windsurfing course will typically start the day after you arrive and continues the 4 following days. If you need a day off in the middle of the week that is not a problem. You will simply join again the next day.

During the course you will learn the following:

180 degree turns
Basic windsurf-techniques
Windsurfing with a harness
Stop and start-techniques

The equipment used is Fanatic Boards and North Sails.

There are no more than eight people pr. course. This ensures that there is enough time for personal attention.

Wind in Fuerteventura

The best time to windsurf and kitesurf in Fuerteventura is from March to August. At this time the wind is almost always stable and cross-shore. From November to February the winds is slight more random and is either on-shore or off-shore.

Keep in mind that no matter what the statistics say we can never fully guarantee wind.

October is the most unstable wind-month on Fuerteventura.

Shared room or single room

If you travel alone you will usually be sharing a double room with someone else. However, if you want a room to yourself it is also possible. It will cost 105 euro extra for the week.
