- Austria is a perfect cycling destination for all ages -
Beautiful landscapes, impressive sights from the past, modern cities and delicious food. In short, Austria is an insanely charming country and cycling holidays in Austria promise great experiences.
Anyone who has been to Austria will remember it as a good experience. Great mountains, glistening lakes, architectural masterpieces, ancient towns and delicious food - this is the Austria we want to show you. When the cycling routes are specially chosen, the local people are nice and friendly and the accommodation villages are well chosen, what can go wrong? Whether you head to beautiful Salzkammergut, cycle along the Danube, along Lake Neusiedl, or cycle in Tyrol, Austria has something for everyone.
The Danube cycle route is probably the best known in the world. Europe's second largest river originates in Germany's Black Forest and runs all the way to the Black Sea. We think the most beautiful part of the Danube is in Austria. Via Passau, the beautiful river enters Austria and from there winds through Upper Austria, Lower Austria, Vienna and leaves Austria at Bratislava. As the riverbank is mostly flat terrain, Cycling along the Danube is a perfect beginner's tour. Along the way you'll experience interesting towns and enchanting landscapes that will delight even the most seasoned cycling holiday enthusiasts. Discover our Cycling Holiday along the Danube River and see it all.
A beautiful mountain landscape with sparkling lakes welcomes you to the beautiful Salzkammergut. We will be very surprised if you don't love your trip here. Walk in the footsteps of the emperor and enjoy the thousands of wonderful impressions. Cycling holidays in the Salzkammergut have been a draw for over 20 years and they are still just as popular. If you don't like having to unpack at new hotels every day, we also have variations where you stay at the same hotel all week. The Salzkammergut is an absolutely fantastic place!
Once Austria's green heart welcomes you, you'll have no doubts. Endless expanses, lush vineyards, orchards and green meadows in wonderful combination with meandering cycle paths, interesting sights, culture and culinary experiences in one of Austria's most popular wine regions - well, you can't go wrong. Styria is a great cycling destination.
Tyrol is world-famous for its majestic mountains, but there's so much more to the region than skiing. For cyclists, there's plenty on offer throughout the summer, and the area has plenty of great cycling routes for beginners and more experienced cyclists alike. For example, ride from Innsbruck to Venice or from St. Moritz to Innsbruck. Tyrol has cycling routes in all directions and for all fitness levels. There's sure to be a great experience for you too.
If you're into both cycling holidays and water, you're in for a treat. There's a reason why our Cycling Cruise in Austria is so popular. The unique atmosphere on board will enchant even the most tenacious landlubber. The ship has the role of your comfortable hotel and restaurant, constantly swimming alongside you. No need to pack your bag every morning. Take the MS Normandie on the route from Passau to Vienna and back again or take the MS Primadonna from Passau to Budapest and back. See our bike cruise in Austria.
Of course, we also have cycling holidays for our youngest guests. A holiday should be spent with the family. We have family-friendly versions of our cycling holidays in Austria, where the stages are mapped out and the route is simpler. So children can join in here too.
The Austrian climate is ideal for us cyclists. It is true that it can rain now and then, but in general Austria has a very pleasant climate. Spring is usually warm and sunny. Summer can be hot, especially in the eastern part of the country, and can occasionally bring stormy weather. Autumn is often warm right into October. Rain can occur as it can anywhere in the world. From October to March there is a high probability of snow - especially in the Alps, so our cycling holidays start in April and early May when it should be in the mountains.
The Austro-Hungarian Dual Monarchy has left its mark on Austrian cuisine. Italy, Bohemia, Bavaria and Hungary have shaped Austrian cuisine into what it is today. A delicious goulash with dumplings, a lovely Paprikahendl with spaetzle, a real Tyrolean Kasspatzn, Schlutzkrapfen, boiled beef with peberod dumplings and apple strudel, pancakes and Sacher Torte - the list is endless.
One thing is for sure: Austrian food is versatile and varied, exciting and tasty. Judge for yourself when you visit - we promise no one will return hungry from Austria.
This is not just a glorious word to pronounce. It is one of the most important and well-known Austrian dishes: the Wienerschnitzel. It consists of veal breaded in breadcrumbs, but the real flavour comes from the clarified butter. Legend has it that the Wienerschnitzel did not come to Austria until the 1800s, when Field Marshal Radetzky is said to have enjoyed the dish in Italy during the Italian Revolution and then brought it home to Austria. Whether Austria's most popular dish actually originated in Italy and was refined only in Austria, no one really knows. All we know is that a well done Wienerschnitzel is great whether served with potato salad, boiled potatoes, fries or just cranberry jam.
